Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Don't be afraid to leave Boeing - there's life on the outside

After 12yrs, I recently left Boeing along with at least a dozen of my peers during the 'Great Resignation'. I ended up being blessed with a 20% pay raise, full remote, decent benefits, in a much healthier company that's less burdened with egotistical management. The new company isn't perfect by any means, but I felt like I needed a change and it was clear Boeing was heading in the wrong direction, so I took the leap.

In the months leading up to my departure, it seemed like nearly everyone I worked with was either leaving, looking, or actively interviewing somewhere else. Today, nearly everyone I worked with over those 12yrs is gone - the few that remain have expressed regrets over staying, saying morale is the worst they've ever seen it and 'leadership' is completely disconnected from the reality on the ground.

Everyone's situation is different, but if you're thinking about leaving but afraid to make the leap, it's probably not a bad idea to take the risk and go. I worked with many 'bitter lifers' during my time at Boeing and it's just not worth letting that place ruin your life and mental health.

It is well known 777X is not going to happen. A person is far better off becoming an electrician or plumber and having their own business than working for the likes of Boeing no matter how much education you have. Boeing is for losers or for people who have relatives that worked there.

$40 an hour are cr-p wages in the greater Seattle area. Any union skilled trade pays much more than Boeing with a pension and better benefits overall. Wake up, do your research. I’m an ex Boeing employee and got into a unionized skilled trade and make 3x my yearly income at Boeing. Oh and my journeyman ticket will take my anywhere I want to work in the country.

Just wait till the 777x is done when the push to recover massive overrun by an equally massive layoff
Though it may be a long wait as the 777x orig slated to cert in 2019 but now delayed to 2024 or beyond.
Stock continues to dive and the Exec wants nothing more than a fatten payday by cutting cost

I left Boeing in 2020 - layoffs. I am back now. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. The overall compensation, though, is about the same. 20% pay raise is OK, but losing other benefits - vacation and other perks actually made those gains not as sweet. I re-joined Boeing in 2022 - making even more than before. Boeing is a large company that provides greater opportunities to learn, move around, and earn as well.

Many people became lifers at Boeing because they loved Seattle and the Northwest. But both Boeing and Seattle are not what they once were and there's little reason to waste your time with either one now. Seattle will survive because other companies have located there. Boeing won't be around Seattle or making commercial airplanes for much longer.

The OP probably forgot to mention he has education with a degree in engineering. So yes there is life outside of Boeing for those of the same stature. The ones not willing to leave & are probably dependent on Boeing for their lively hood are your basic joes & janes that won’t make it out there in the real world with real jobs. They only got in Boeing because their mommy, daddy, brother, sister, & whole family got them in through nepotism. You’d be suprised how many fat, d-mb, lazy, unqualified b-ms actually work on the lines.... Boeing is laughable if you take a closer look at their workforce on the field.

But, but, if I get laid off, where else am I going to make 100K for: showing up, sitting around, buying cafeteria snacks, taking breaks, and surfing the web? Not that I am unmotivated, but it's hard to build planes that no one wants. Peace out, Boeing. I am readying my parachute as I type.

Not sure it really matters. If you don't leave Boeing, Boeing will soon leave you. Looking forward to the end and may many investors be burned in process like Boeing burned in the two max accidents.
