Email from HR about PTO & Severance

Did everyone get an email from HR telling them to take all remaining PTO days by end of year? Hoping that wasn't just my team..

Also, I've been a remote employee and now live in a state without an office nearby. I know that they are reevaluating "remote" employees, but I just found out that if I don't/can't go in to the office and they have deemed that my job must be done in office that they can fire me without severance. Is that true? I think that's part of Florida being an "at will" state. This whole time I was thinking that they would just fire me for not going in -- but I thought that they would pay me severance. I no longer think that's true.

Most likely you all will go on the flexible (unlimited policy) that TIBCO has.

This is another sign how PE will cut costs. Logmein which acquired the GoTo Business from Citrix changed the PTO policy to "unlimited" PTO without paying the accrued days. Employees had to use the existing PTO first before they can tap into the "unlimited" portion.

This is another PE owner ploy to reduce their costs. Some U.S. States require that un-taken PTO must be paid to a terminated employee. So, that is why they want as many employees as possible to take any remaining PTO now -- before your job is eliminated.

Again, they won't terminate all 1000+ employees at the same time, they'll do it gradually over several weeks. But, they will start with small groups of employees ASAP, now the PE deal has closed. This is now standard practice for U.S. HR

If someone is fired for a cause, no severance is paid. If they expect someone to come to office and he doesn’t, firing is for cause. No severance will be paid.
Also severance is not a right. It is done to get your signature that you won’t sue them for any reason.

The PTO message is normal.. it is just a reminder to schedule your pto so you dont lose any days that are not rolling over.

About the severance, it is at the employers discretion since by law there is no obligation to the employer to pay severance. According to a post here, on the terms of the deal there was a clause stating tjat severance will be pay in accordance to Citrix terms which i believe it will be, but nobody knows and there will be people saying that they will fire you with no money because of tibco, tom krause, the inflation, the weather, the stars, the horoscope, etc etc etc
