Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Everybody seems to have accepted their fate

I remember how it was in the first few weeks after the announcement. Everybody was stressing, panicking, and imagining the worst-case scenario. I think it took a month or so for most people to reach the "que sera, sera" stage. I feel bad for those few who are still thinking about this 24/7.

I am a VMWare employee and think I would remember seeing a roadmap. If you mean we have possible closing dates between November 2022 and October 2023 then I do not consider this a roadmap. Information is almost non existent.
“The executive also acknowledged that there was initial employee concerns over the deal, but that has lessened as its workforce have been shown the roadmap.”

LOL - Roadmaps are nothing more than a pile of BS, as they change often, and release dates are often missed, especially by VMware. Customers and employees know better than to trust roadmaps.

But shows you the quality of our awesome leadership if they think that's a satisfactory answer.

Apparently employees are calm as we have been shown the roadmap. What an utter bollox. And look at the picture. It is screaming enthusiasm isn’t it.

A lot of people will wake up eventually realising that their skills, outside of VMware, only applies to poorly paid support or consultant jobs.

Before leaving I was on a six figure job in the UK and most VMware related job went for half that.

Personally I changed career and dropped anything VMware related and went full blast K8s and security.

@csa+1ixzvg6e Well, not if you are in EUC or work on product support/implementation. The issue with working on particular products is that your entire expertise goes out the window if you aren’t working on the product. If you worked on VSphere or airwatch, where do you go if you dont work for VMware? Sure, they are widely used products but how many people are competing for those jobs? After the potential layoffs, probably more than enough.

public cloud providers would be happy to absorb the human capital from VMware, move on with your life it is not the end of the world
