Before it was fists, then knives, now g-ns! These shoplifters have become emboldened!
Who said shoplifting is a victimless crime! It's a gateway crime that leads to bad outcomes! Time to fix our laws to lock up these brazen criminals! We have been outsourcing jobs to Mexico for years! Why don't we outsource some prison space to Mexico and let some of these criminals reflect on their misdeeds in a Mexican prison.
In addition, you pay for your own upkeep there as well. No need for these criminals to
be an additional burden on our society.

Police said the loss prevention officer is still in the hospital.

Police say the victim was reportedly shot in the parking outside Macy’s men’s store, but when they arrived on scene, they found the victim inside the entrance of the mall.

Macy’s released a statement about what happened.

“We are deeply saddened about the incident that took place today at Macy’s Pavilions at Buckland Hills,” said Stephanie Jimenez, communications associate, Macy’s Inc. “The safety of our customers and our colleagues is Macy’s top priority. We are working closely with the local police department on this investigation and defer all comments about the case to them per policy.”

The officer was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Hartford Hospital. Officials say he is still in Hartford Hospital.

Police say the victim is a 27-year-old man who was a Loss Prevention Officer with Macy’s.

According to preliminary information, the officer was attempting to confront a shoplifter.

State police said they were assisting.

They said they were dispatched to the surrounding area of the highway and were provided with details of the incident.

Channel 3 spoke with a group of teenagers who were shopping at the mall when the shooting occurred.

Amanda Bengston from South Windsor was shopping with friends at H&M. They say they stayed in the back room for a while.

“They locked us into the back room and they gave us the option tot leave but at that point there was nobody in the mall. It was right after it happened,” says Bengtston.

Some shoppers say they didn’t know there was a shooting. One father, who was shopping with his family, found out about the shooting when Channel 3 asked for comment.

He called his mom who was inside the mall with his kids.

“Hey mom come to the car. There’s been a shooting in the mall. Come to the car please,” he says on the phone.

He wanted to see his family. Within minutes, his mother and two kids came outside.

Channel 3 also spoke with a mall employee. He says this incident shocked him.

“I’ve been working at this mall for like 7 to 8 years so I know this mall. It never really happens here so it’s like shocking to me,” says Anthony Tiggett from Hartford.

There was no threat to the public, police said.

In our store in South Texas, there building a Sports Bar right next to a Macy's store at the Mall. The name of the bar is Ojos Locos Sports Bar, the employees don't feel safe because they have to deal with drunk customers and a bunch of ho-n dogs. I just don't think that Macy's cares about the safety of the employees, some colleagues already mention it to management. Everyone knows that something bad is going to happen once the bar open up. That sports bar gets alot of attention but in a bad way.

AP don’t do anything cuz Macys is scared of getting sued. At our store, an employee was punched by a crazy customer and AP did nothing. The husband of the employee called the cops for her. You gotta take care of yourself. You see crazy customers, step away from the floor. You feel threatened, step away and leave. Don’t even wait for managers or anything, just leave.

Last week in our Mall there was a man threatening employees and shoppers with a g-n at 2 stores; Macy’s stayed open and didn’t even acknowledge the safety concern to the staff.
This week there was a mentally ill man pacing and screaming in the front of fragrances. He threw tester bottles at the salesperson. When she called A/P to deal with him the APM said “He would need to stab you for me to kick him out of the store. My job is to protect the merchandise”
Macy’s does not care about the employees, only the buck they can make and will sell something over your bleeding body to make that buck if need be.

I don't always feel safe walking out to my car at night. No real security in our mall after closing. If I can't bring my g-n I am bringing mace. Keep your head up don't be playing on your phone and gets your keys out BEFORE you leave the door!!
