Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Really confused - any help would be appreciated...

I have an offer from qualcomm for RF Product and bech test (136k +100k/3 years + 45k joining) , as of now I am working as a RF Systems design engineer at Quantenna (Onsemi) TC:142k

  1. With a recession looming around should I take a slight pay hike and move to Qualcomm into a to new but not so great role of RF product engineering or should I stay in Quantenna with RF systems which has higher learning looking long term
  1. To make matters worse I did accept the qualcomm offer and they applied for my H1 transfer, reneging now would blacklist me ? if so for how many years ?
  1. Its been 3 months since I joined quantenna (onsemi) , will changing jobs too much effect my resume very much
  1. What is the likely hood that qualcomm will have a layoff during this recession

Really confused any help would be appreciated...

Dude, if you are indian, you should be ok.
Qualcomm VP's, Sr Dir, Dir, first layoff people of non Indian origin, then , folks who are not from the same village as themselves.
Hope you are getting the trend, check the 6000 layoffs they have done since 2016 :)

I would take the Qualcomm offer for these raisons:

  • Qualcomm has a bigger name with a lot of learning resources
  • Money wise , Qualcomm's offer is better, you will keep the sign-on if u get layed off (+ severance package)
  • there is no guarantee your current company will not lay you off
  • it's fine if u stayed 3 months in a company, as long as it's not frequent on your CV

@OP: TC seems low to me especially for someone with industrial experience. What is the level you are hired at ( Engineer, Sr, Staff, etc.)? Which site are you going to work at?

That's all nonsense. The business doesn't care.

This person, any person can and should make the decision that is right for them. And if that means changing decisions. Well, thats what it means.

US employees don't care about these things you bring up. There is no such thing as a blackball.

Nobody knows your name, situation or details. Just like nobody knows the businesses dealings of the other side.

The fact is, the business will do exactly the same. There is no emotion. It will drop you or hire you whenever it wants and not think twice either way. It is constantly making decisions in its best interest, as you should do too.

The business will be fine. Worry about you first.

You accepted the offer and they’re starting the H1B transfer and now you’re not sure? You should have been asking these questions BEFORE you actually accepted the offer.

In the US, it is considered unprofessional and in bad form to renege on an accepted offer as there are usually other candidates who could have been offered the role, but you’ve prevented that. Declining the offer now will potentially mean weeks or months for the team to fill the position which impacts productivity.

Will you be blacklisted if you renege? Probably. Either way, I’d be embarrassed to crawl back after a renege.

U accepted the job, so the rest of your msg is nonsense and unfocused imo. I won't attempt to address the questions for that reason.

But let me tell you.

Q is a he-l ho-e.

Q banks on H1B and offshore to keep the engine running.

A steady supply of new employees is required constantly, with an abundance of the lemmings in or coming from India.

Welcome aboard. Bend over for the cash my friend. Smile.

...in a nutshell.
