The individual contributors in the field work hard to bring money in to the company. Sales works hard, SEs work hard, PSO consultants work hard, product engineers work hard, TSEs in GS work hard, and so on. And so it really sucks to see this hard earned money wasted on the train wreck called VMware Explore. It is a combination of boring, awkward, and yawn inducing. One upside is that this will likely be the last one.

Its true the senior execs had no say in the acquisition, but the difference i see if that most of us wont be getting 10-50 million dollars to compensate us which does provide just a small amount of comfort around such a devastating thing to happen to the rest of us with bills, families and mortgages/rent to cover
This is my last post here since I will be gone from VMW soon. I wish you all the best. It really sucks that what happened to us happened. A perfectly nice company with mostly nice , decent people being bought by the worst possible company imaginable. And at a time when the industry is locked up in terms of new hires.
Maybe the deal will fall through and those of you who stay will get to keep your jobs. Maybe BC won't be as nasty and won't lay people off. I sincerely hope for the best outcome.
I will miss it here. Good luck.
We work hard for the money...
Very unevenly distributed if anyone works hard comparing financials with Broadcom and some really hangers on/lemons.
Broadcom has $13bn revenue per 10k employees and some seriously tasty profit margins.
Circa VMware 40k employees
Can anyone think of another example of a publicly traded company that has been greater than 80% owned by a single entity for more than 15 years?
I think not.
The whole arrangement is perverse.
In particular since just 7 years ago you could buy EMC and 80% of vmware for less than Hock Mao Tan is buying all of vmware today.
Harvard MBAs, welcome to your next case study in insanity.
"If you already have a new job why are you wasting your time arguing on here? Move on with your life"
Because it's fun.
"How stupid can you be? They caused the stock price and balance sheet to be low attractive enough for scavenger to come in. We were and ARE still bloated."
That's pretty ironic. Being the stupid answer that it was, given that no, you are absolutely incorrect. Buzzzz ! Wrong. Try again.
No, the real reason is that just one intetity held a major stake in our company's stock. And as such, they were able to call the shots, and when a buyer came, they sold their investment. Simple! Why is it so difficult to understand for people that supposedly work in the tech industry?
@ytr+1iuCBrFF if you already have a new job why are you wasting your time arguing on here? Move on with your life.
VMware explore probably makes more money for the company than Tanzu though.
"Not even upper level executives really had much power or say when it came to the acquisition that we are about to experience. It is what it is. "

Observing two adults argue with each other about the quality of their insults on a message board is really quite inspiring….
"The only one whining here is you."
Come back when you have an insult that is above third grade level.
The only one whining here is you.
"Hock Tan knows, oh boy he knows. Just wait until the g-n in fired on the starting line. Bang! You are gone. Have a nice day."
LOL! Already have a new job lined up. A good one. Not sure if I can say the same for some of you guys who are on here whining probably deep down inside realizing you're probably unhirable dinosaurs.
Have a nice day!
And nobody really truly knows what the future outcome is going to be in terms of the form that VMware will take as a company,
Hock Tan knows, oh boy he knows. Just wait until the g-n in fired on the starting line. Bang! You are gone. Have a nice day.
Things get renamed all the time.Do you get annoyed when you go to the grocery store and your favorite soft drink has a new design for the label? Because of course it's no longer just diet Coke. Now we have Coke zero. God forbid! Do you also get annoyed when our competitors also rename their event? Because if you had been paying attention, you would see that's exactly what had happened. If you don't like change then you're probably working in the wrong industry and to begin with.
What's really going on here is we have a whole bunch of immature crybabies who want to find something to whine about because they are freaked out about the acquisition and the future of their jobs. And so of course it's easy to go after other parts of the company that they probably have no understanding about in the first place.
So stop with the nonsense. Either do your jobs, or perhaps if you are unhappy, put in the good work and find yourself a new job somewhere else. That would be a lot more constructive than coming on here and bi-----g about a name change. Grow up.
And, a lot of people are just annoyed that VMworld was renamed Explore. Seems like that WAS a Marketing call, but if you know otherwise, please enlighten us.
Lots of marketing folks in here I see
That's not been the sentiment that I've been seeing on this site. There have been numerous posts which go out of their way to blame marketing for everything. I guess because it's an easy target because what they produce is visual. I get that a lot of people are both scared, frustrated and disappointed. But going after other parts of the company isn't solving anything. This is a difficult time for everybody. We are all in this thing together. And we're all going through the same emotions. Not even upper level executives really had much power or say when it came to the acquisition that we are about to experience. It is what it is. And nobody really truly knows what the future outcome is going to be in terms of the form that VMware will take as a company, and how many people are going to be let go in the process. In the meantime, everyone is trying to do the best they can during this time period and under these circumstances. I think that if everybody understood this, perhaps there would be less nastiness being displayed here and elsewhere.
it's not about marketing... I don't think anyone argues you don't work hard. the issue is the complete loss of direction from the execs...which renders all work pretty moot
The trash talk is getting old. Guess what? The people in marketing ALSO work JUST as hard as the rest of you. So to come on here and anonymously trash your fellow co-workers without realizing the sheer irony that they- just like you- had a job to do and did the best they could. All because you're scared about the very real possibility that you too will be losing your jobs. Sad and pathetic. And I am sure this will get tons and tons of down votes. Go for it. I have a new job lined up anyway so its not like it matters.
