Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Hock Tan at Explore

Watching the keynote online and Hock gets called out by ragu, has a spot light on him and stands up and takes applause. coordinated early for sure.

To those that keep hoping some wind will blow and this acquisition wont happen, this is a sign for you to drop those weak ideas. You just got a new look at your new leader.

Hock will keep the change management team then fire them. Just saved a few millions.

Kit as CEO?! LOL. CEOs don't wear skinny jeans.

This whole thing has shook my faith in capitalism. How the he-l is Raghu worth tens of millions of dollars? What people are looking to Raghu for leadership and guidance? The man can barely read a teleprompter. Why isn't Kit CEO?

Yea, it looks like Hoc has made his decisions after the Keynote today. The (lack of) energy in the room was palpable, he said. The list will be prepared by the end of the week.

"Can’t believe Raghu isn’t even 60 yet (apparently). He looks like 75 walking around like someone with Alzheimer’s having a stroke."

Yeah, he looks like someone just trying to limp the train wreck over the finish line. He has my sympathy, minus $50 Million. :-)

The Google engineer's presentation was the only one to remind us we were an innovative company...once.

If there ever was a writing on the wall that VMware is over, then this keynote is it. Customers know this. We saw zero reaction from the crowd. I think even the CVS dude got more of an applause for his delivery.

In other forums, I saw this kickoff session wonderfully described as "EPIC cringe". :-)

Even the rap at the end is unfortunately not working. The keynote is such a disappointment.

lol how is a Raghu a "great technology leader"? can anyone share a meaningful recent (pre-CEO) or current example? this "switzerland of the Cloud" is BS, the SmartNIC story is weak-sauce and the edge story is a joke.

Hey Ragu, please take a small advance on the $50 million you are going to make, and have someone dress you like a professional adult.

CEO of a major company, presenting at the last Vmware con, and he's dressed like it's a lazy Sunday puttering around the house.

Speaker after speaker ... having snafus in delivery.... a company in decline.

I think it would have been more weird to ignore the broadcom thing. Like they tell us to do and we try to tell customers its bus as usual, but really to ignore and say nothing says a lot. Good move just tossing it out there and moving on.

With the 20k attendance at previous VMworld, the roar in the audience and energy was palpable and drove up the presenters energy. This looks like 2k people in the current session. Not the same energy.

Did they really need to do that? Remind everyone whats on the horizon for the company? Not a sound decision.

I’m more worried about Raghu’s dress sense. Looks like he’s just popping down the pub for a beer.

Yea, Raghu isn't the best at presenting. He's great technology leader but not the best choice for an energetic evangelist CEO. Nevertheless, he's out there doing his best. This will be our last Explore. Hoc will not be spending this kind of money for a customer party. All of this will be digital with him since it's way cheaper and gets 20x more engagement. It will be a sad day when this happens. VMworld was special.

Just a note watch Ragu... I get he's CEO, but could they find a less exciting speaker? His energy is like a guy reading someone else's script.
