Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Inventory Levels Sky High

Just had a visit from our DVP and he was surprised at how much inventory we had in our stockrooms. He kept asking why we couldn't get our trucks unloaded and placed when there's almost no room left in the stockroom. Anyone else have toys filling up all of their back of house space? We get three trucks a week and are running out of space to hold everything and the sales floor is packed. If it's like this already, can't wait to see what it will look like in October or November.

We keep adding in new shops and taking back of house space and then ship tons of goods with no place to go. People are already calling off on the support team because the workload is crazy and expectations are unrealistic. Good thing there are a lot of job options in the Bay area as nobody wants to go through this for another holiday season.

When you have players playing out of position, you aren't going to win a lot of games.

Wow, I wouldn't want to be the buyer that signed up for huge Toy R Us investment this year. Toys aren't like clothes, you can easily order them online for way cheaper than buying them in our store. Have you seen the prices on our toys? Our stockrooms are overflowing with the stuff even after we expanded the department to almost half of kids and it isn't even September. Why so early, nobody thinks of Macy's for toys and we only sell them at Christmas time because of the traffic in the store.

If that's so, guess after x years of blind loyalty and willing to do any BOH garbage job required in my store, I better get the resume ready. Cuz I ABSOLUTELY refuse to go on register. Lol

Unbelievable! I'm guessing that colleagues are going to have a different job duty or task every day when they go to work. Front to house colleagues will be helping out at the dock area with processing the truck or doing fulfillment picks, maybe helping out with set sale. Back to house colleagues will be at the sales floor helping out with recovery or ringing up customers with there purchases and also opening up credit or bronze. This idea with ISM will include everybody expect for commission colleagues.

In response to the latest post: How is that different from ISM? Please elaborate if you know. Thanks.

There's word that the company is planning to implement Back to House and Front to House to one team, possibility next year either in the spring or summer. The company will test it out for several stores or so call pilot stores. They did it before in the spring of 2021 with 53 stores ( ISM ) pilot program. Several store managers already know about this information. I'm just wondering how will this program will work. Every year Macy's is always coming up with something new, they can't stick to one thing.

The latest TikTok trend: QUIET QUITTING.

"It's about stopping doing work that YOU think is beyond what YOU were hired to do and not getting compensated for. It finally has a name and now an understanding of what that perceived lazy coworker is doing and thriving.

With the fulfillment expansion taking the largest BOH space in our store, space is at a premium. Now combine with the stupidity of ISM, severe under staffing store-wide and incoming receipts we simply cannot keep up with, the end of this year is turning even worse than I imagined it would be.......and it's not even labor day yet!!! LOL

We still have pallets of electrics and cookware from last holiday season. Our stockrooms and floors are jam packed as well. We can’t go on like this.

My store processes Backstage at the same time as the Macy's product. That is just crazy. Very inefficient. Macy's hangs on to clearance for FAR too long. We JUST pennied the flannel sheets from LY for pete's sake!

Here’s a way of getting more money now! This has worked up in the Northwest for a long time. I would ask for $20 an hour and tell them that another company wants to hire you. Even though it might not be true they don’t know that! Use the leverage that you have with so many companies needing people. This is the perfect time. Take advantage of it!!

I am one of those people doing the workload of 4 people and I have not received any raise. It upset me the most that they are giving raises based on favoritism and then hiring even some new people at my store at a higher pay rate than what many of us working here for years are making. That is why I am actively looking for a new job. Macys worst company and treat their long term employees horribly.

I've been with this company 10+ years and this is the year I am most worried that you know what will hit the fan. Nobody knows what to do and people making these decisions are completely out of touch with what is going on in the stores. It makes zero sense! Spend a day in the store observing and learning, and it would help you make better decisions. On top of it, you have store leadership who doesn't know what to prioritize first. There are just too many things going on and sadly, you have some store managers that only care about credit and service scores and have no idea how to run the other aspects of the store, especially operations and merchandising so they don't help anyone. I think there should be another reporting structure for Operations/OMNI/OOMs. The OOM in my store was an external hire (during 3rd quarter!!) and after nearly year in their role, they are still completely and utterly clueless making everything else that trickles down as a result of broken processes that much harder. Couple that with a bumpy transition to ISM and you have a recipe for a major disaster headed into November with expectations for perfect execution being the same as always with only a handful of people carrying the majority of the workload, doing the best they can and the job of 4 people, yet still making the same amount of money. Crazy. This company does not have a clue and simply does not care about its people. It should come as no surprise why turnover is so bad right now.
