Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Great teams don't just happen

I have been in a new company for some time now. I managed to get a very solid offer, but it's already clear to me that it's not all about the pay. For those who have also left, I'm wondering what you miss the most from VMWare? I definitely miss the colleagues with whom it was a real pleasure to work with.

I left a year ago, after 12 years at vmware, I honestly don’t miss a darn thing. When I start to miss something, I null it over and what it is is a memory. I miss the memories of the great culture and people , but that died over two years ago.

There’s nothing left at current vm that anyone should miss, and if you do, go find it at a different company.

So what is the right place, a lunch time chat with Betsy and the turtles?

Agreed. This place seems to be the place for vitriolic xenophobia, racism, s-xism, etc. I swear I can’t stop watching it, but this forum is really just a full of sh-t id-fest, not fond nostalgias and comradery.

Maybe today is the day I can stop checking back here thinking I’ll find anything useful.

I don't think this is right place to collect this kind of feedback, looking back previous post in thelayoff.com most of them are pointless mumblings, for any company.

I left as well and I must admit - even after 7 years of VMware - I don't miss a thing. For me it isn't even about the pay - in fact, I earn less in my new job (applied pre-announcement mind).

The only thing I miss is that I got paid a lot for having an easy life. That's the reality. And I think a lot of people are afraid to leave because they think that they cannot get the same or higher package for the same amount of money.

For me vmware became stagnant ... no real innovation ... Just random acquisitions that are being thrown over the fence.

Then you get execs like Sumit that say on company meetings that he still doesn't know how he got the job because he had no clue about it (was when Pat was still there) and a CEO that is as enthusiastic as a door knob ...

So no, I don't really miss anything - package - maybe - but my manager was as intelligent as said door knob too - so nothing lost there ...

I miss the people too and the culture. Idk, something is just different. People care about you or at least pretend to and that feels good whether it’s real or not.

Teams change and managers leave the company. If you experienced 'bliss' while at VMW then you were lucky. For most people, eventually, it's always about the pay.
