Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Boy, this union negotiation is stressing me out

I hope we reach an agreement soon. Trying to figure out if I have to get a second job to cover my medical. I was told that the max wage increase will not be over 5% in a 2 yr. contract. Basically we would be in the negative due to the increase in medical. We'll get 1 extra day off for the year. Safety is not their concern. We have to make record profits at our expense. Beyond stressed out.

Or…….you could put your Big Boy pants on. And if you didn’t have that $750 truck payment you wouldn’t worry so much. Things could be worse though. Your mom could ask you to pay your fair share, instead of living off her for free.

Why is it stressing you out? If you exercise your don't give a sh1t muscle a little more, then life will be much easier. I don't see why so many people are having a meltdown over it. There was 3 separate unions that agreed today for a potential contract. I saw it, read it, agreed with half of it, and disagreed with the other half. The unions and RR's are in this situation because neither side could agree on anything. The PEB recommendations were a good start, and most has already been agreed upon. Some people will say the unions were asking for too much, and others will say the RR's were asking for too much. The very fact that it has come to a potential strike has gotten the RR's attention and the attention of shareholders. Who do you think folded first? I did like some of the numbers that were announced in the tentative agreement, but nothing is final yet. Like I said, I don't care. I won't care until the final agreement has been ratified.

You might be money ahead now, but wait and see how you screwed up your retirement. Good luck with social security.

As far as insurance is concerned, I was laid off in 2019 and was called back a couple months ago. I declined because I have a better job and don't need to deal with the toxicity of Union Pacific's management (both upper and lower). As far as insurance is concerned, right now it is cheaper but under the union agreement, it appears that the insurance will go up to about what I pay now for insurance. I am no longer union so it appears that the railroad insurance will be on par with the market rates.

That being said, I am money ahead since I am no longer union, I don't pay union dues. Furthermore, my pay is slightly lower than the railroad but I bring home more than I did working for the railroad. At the end of the day things are better for me economically than if I went back to the railroad. What I'm curious is how much will the union dues go up under this new contract. They were pretty steep when I worked at UP and I highly doubt the union will keep the present rates. I predict the dues will be over $100/month.

Don’t be stressed OP! You’ll have $500 more in your pocket each month, and still have insurance cheaper than you can find anywhere else.. Don’t listen to the id--ts

Try some cbd gummies or go get some cbd flower to smoke. It helps alot with the stress from working on the railroad.

If you’re stressed out, just have some coffee and cookies with friends.
