Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Broadcom won't change anything "that is working"

Our team just met with one of the many VPs, and they assured us that Hock is super impressed by our BU and he "is not looking to change anything that is working". In fact we are told there is no hiring freeze and we should try to fill as many open reqs as we can.

Weird that they would encourage us to hire more and interview more, just to fire them later.

Broadcom wouldn’t train current employees to work/support VMWare stuff. People have already enough on their plates. Sales/Pre-Sales may have to, but that would likely be an exception.
If someone at Broadcom is Idle, they would faster let the person go and keep a knowledgeable person from VMWare than cross training the former employee.

Yepp, he said the same thing about Tanzu. He absolutely loves it! In fact, he thinks it's a gold mine. He's been wearing shirts with the Tanzu logo on it and everything.

Big question is PSO being kept with any BU staying. If EUC stays, does the PSO portion stay in house with it?

If it was truly EUC BU then Hok got played. Probably the most fraudulent BU of them all. They only have subscription revenue because they were forced to convert first. But they are being taken apart by Microsoft. Citrix and new players like Nerdio.

This story sounds like a steaming pile of manure.

If they were happy with things that are working, they aren't looking too deep.
I don't think you can knock something off a desk and not hit something that doesn't work well.

So what is the criteria for “what is working?”

Maybe he can share the excel template?

OP listening to their VP and been told a fluffy story. Unless your in the room I wouldn’t believe sh*t. It’s against legal/SEC regulations and these meetings are highly regulated. Don’t be gullible… Hock plays games and your VP playing right to his hand.

And you all believe in everything that the VP said, don't you. Well, let me tell you, when my company got taken over, the VP and Directors said the same thing to us. But after we were merged and six months later, they chopped us. It all depends on the financials. At the end of the day, it depends on the budget. Money talks, and you'll be walking out the door. Do NOT believe anything these executive tell you, that is their job. They want to make sure the talented people do not leave the company before the acquisition because they want Broadcom people trained on the various VMWare products. Once they are trained, you are out.
My suggestion is you start looking for a job. Forget about the severance. Getting a job while you have a job is a lot easier. And you won't have to continuously hear from your family members, "Did you get a job yet ! ". Don't be so stupid and think that Broadcom VPs are going to save your job. They are trying to save themselves from failed projects. Their entire bonus is dependent on deliveries, deadlines, and happy customer.

I’m guessing it’s vsphere and they are pretty happy about the subscription transition.

This was EUC. Broadcom was quite impressed at the profit and the subscription based revenue EUC makes. They initially were thinking about selling it out, but after the presentation changed their decision. They will keep EUC as is.
