My manager was surprised when I gave notice. Some of them obviously think that this is a company where employees should be grateful to have a job. Maybe it's finally time for them to realize that there are much better opportunities out there and not to underestimate their employees so much.

The corporate and CEO worship in this town is bizarre. Keep kissing the ring that doesn't care about you and never has.
"There are many companies that offer better compensation packages than E.
We are leaving because there better places are out there. They are not hard to find".
Then why are here wasting your time vs going out and making CEO money? Go enjoy your $20MM/yr.
"Maybe the reason why people are quitting is they are tired of a greedy company that only cares about maximizing its profits at the expense of its employees?"
And where will you find an altruistic company that exists to serve it's employees first, at the expense of it's profits? Won't be a large company. The larger a company gets the more it looks like any other faceless, dispassionate corporation.
Four people I know who took the voluntary exit a couple of years ago are actively trying to get back in, now that the 2 year ban on re-engagement is done. They're all employed elsewhere - nobody is sitting on the bench. But they haven't found greener grass.

What roles report to a manager? Some supervisors, team leads, and front life.
Why would a VP need to advance? Because very few people get to VP without aspiring further.
Why would VP or above need to “job hop” to advance? They have already advanced enough.
If they don’t have a professional degree that is why they are “managers” and not Director or above.

Enbridge still gives out the Valued People status to some, just not all. In Asset Performance we are told everyday how valuable we are. Not always verbally, but through exceptional status performance ratings and the discretionary STIP, RSU and spot bonuses on a monthly basis sometimes. Perks of being in the top tier of talent, we get handsomely rewarded beyond the norm given to ordinary replaceable employees.

This Company used to be a Company where people were thankful and grateful to work for. Unfortunately, they changed when the Engineer CEO was replaced with the Bean Counter CEO. Since then, Employees have been reduced from Valued People status to Spreadsheet assets and liabilities.
Great for Corporate…Sad for Hundreds of Families. But “Oh Well, it’s nothing personal, it’s just business”.
Therefore, let them continue to think employees are lucky to work there, while talent and experience moves on to better opportunities.
Haha my manager was shocked as well, he couldn’t believed someone could get a bigger pay and title somewhere else. Thing is, many ENB managers are from the older generation and don’t even have university degrees. Just climbed through the old boys club ranks. They can’t comprehend job hopping to advance.
