Thread regarding Baker Hughes layoffs

Career progression

My plan is to leave soon because I realized that I will only be wasting my time here.
Purely out of curiosity, I am interested in how much your career has progressed since you came here?

That’s a true story right there, but now you know all that you do, isn’t it time to bite the bullet & do what so many have now done – move on to a company a little less toxic?
As a side note, careers are for the Brass in Bakers; the rest of us with any self respect have either moved on, or plan to move on & leave them to it.
Let's face it, If you are genuinely good at your job, & make your Boss look good in the process, you aren’t going anywhere, because we all know hard work & dedication are not rewarded at bakers, but it does reward somebody else.
If it's your own responsibility for career progression, & they clearly have no interest as a company, best move to another with a bit more of a positive attitude.

The new mantra is that career progression is your own responsibility however, from my experience, they are actively trying to keep you where you are, in particular if you perform well in your current job. I pushed for years to move to a certain role and had so many excuses that I eventually had to give up. The first excuse was "wrong location" (I had to relocate at my expenses if I wanted the job). During and after COVID location became irrelevant so it became "there is no need to apply as you will move automatically with the project to that role.". However when I then asked to be included in the org chart for the next project phase it turned out that they couldn't commit to that. Then, after pushing and pushing, out of the blue I was asked to produce a personal development plan to allow me, while still working on my old job, to build the skills for the new role. Eventually, as part of the development plan discussions, I was told that I had to get along with a certain guy in order to move to the new role... it turned out that this was the only "skill" I needed. After that I decided to apply to another internal position and moved out of that department. My advise therefore is to apply to whatever is of interest to you without waiting for them to advise or propose.
