I’ve been here for 10 years now and have really enjoyed the job so far, and I had no intention of leaving. A genuine question not meant to stoke the fire, what has Raghu done since he took over from Pat? I genuinely don’t get what he has done or brought to that role apart from giving out hoodies and more EPIC days. What’s your thoughts?

Hard to find anything he has brought to the table really, the 53 million dollars will be a nice payoff for a year of mediocrity

Guy talks a good game and can create acronyms, but he was incompetent.

He also loved to see himself on TV.
Especially saying things like "vmware is an aggressive H1B user".
That's turned out really well for the hometown crew.
He's done what every executive does... built themselves up with luck and great talking until they get a massive payday. These people don't care about you or your family.
+1 on PG being the most overrated CEO in the valley. Perhaps not the entire valley, but was enormously overrated at VMW. I would argue that Ragoo is as much of a function of PG as MD/SL. It was PG who spiraled the company to the point where MD/SL made their current play.
Realize that this was 100% Pat's fault.
In 2012 VMware had what, 4Bn revenue, a very strong eng team, and the chops to be a real challenge to AWS/MSFT. Wind forward 12 years: revenue growth stalled, no BU works with each other, zero accountability for VPs and above, the GTM engine is 10 years old and stagnant, new product introductions have stopped (VSAN was the last one, then VMC which new, but also the same old vsphere), the sales/marketing engine has completely forgotten how to sell anything new. The organization is a complete mess with every function matrixed up the wazoo and no single-threaded-leader. Even Raghu - Pat created 2-in-a-box with Rajiv, 2-in-a-box with Mark/Krish, 2-in-a-box with John and Krish, on and on.
Pat was the worst CEO this company had, and I have seen them all. Pat is the most overrated CEO in the valley IMO. Guy talks a good game and can create acronyms, but he was incompetent.

The most uninspiring CEO I ever worked under. As useless as using a spoon for cutting steak.
He did send the most technical memo ever on VMwares future. Then he did a light tour on why the plan was great! Was it?
I’ve always wondered if he was smiling because he was thinking about his acquisition payout.

Installed on purpose. Yes man for MD to do the deal with BC (or whoever would make a payday for MD). Was known forever (here 10 years) the guy has zero backbone.

He was installed. He hasnt done anything but coast. No stern direction, no vision. No shutting down of expensive pet projects, no pushing the VPs to constrain costs (other than T&E budget which they brought over from 2021)...
He is a door mat that the board needed. Dell and the board knew this was coming and didnt want a CEO that would ruin it.... That is Ragu
He has done nothing.
But, he also did nothing before he became CEO.
He was installed as king because he was the perfect yes man.
