VMware Explore is flopping. They are now offering to pay for passes for employes to attend sessions.

Changing to VMware Explore was a huge mistake. When VMworld had such a big name and history.
The new CMO tried to make a name for herself. Failure is that name.

"Corporate marketing fluff bunnies get bu-t hurt and project on people who deliver value. Good luck finding another job. "

That's the VMware spirit! Respond with a immature, high school insult. Well hey, feel free to keep on delivering that "value" to your new overlords over at BC. I've heard its going to be all kinds of fun. I already landed a new job a few weeks ago and left VMW a week ago.

Demand generation by VMware CMO is defined as excessive email SPAM. Very few customers were willing to promote themselves publicly at Explore due to the BC affiliation.

There are A LOT of folks in the CMO self-congratulating themselves for doing irrelevant busy work and fabricating “who cares” metrics. Explore will be CMOS very expensive swan song.

"You need product marketing that speaks to the features and benefits. You need feature and roadmap discussions with product management. You need implementation discussions with sales engineers. "

Like I said before- You engineers are soooooo lucky! You're more than likely to be spared and get to enjoy once again coming to the office every day and worrying about whether or not you'll have a job next quarter. Lucky you! Amazing how easily you guys get your little feelings hurt. No matter. Good luck!!!

I don't think people are bashing marketing. Sadly, it is usually one of the first departments to get slashed. Sorry that you have to go through this, but it's the truth.

I thought Broadcom’s marketing strategy was “pay us or your data center closes” 🙂

You need product marketing that speaks to the features and benefits. You need feature and roadmap discussions with product management. You need implementation discussions with sales engineers. What you don't need is fluffy corporate marketing done by people who don't know the products, or the customers or the marketplace but who outnumber all others by 10 fold and spend enormous budgets.

Always, always easy to bash Marketing. Well guess what, smug engineers, in software you have to have marketing to sell product and without it none of your engineering means all that much. But don't worry, since you're engineers, you all get to work for BC, meaning welcome back to the office, welcome to quarterly layoffs and tons and tons of stress! Enjoy!

Corporate marketing has been a disaster forever. It only gets worse. Sales are made by product managers, product marketing and sales engineers. Corporate marketing is just fluff in the wind. We'd be better of if they ki---d corporate marketing.

Like… locusts and seas of blood, that sort of thing? What does that have to do with marketing? (Legit question)
