Watching the "cloud universal" train wreck go-to-market unfolding, one must ask how can a company that has been pricing and packaging software for almost 24 years still be so epically bad at pricing and packaging?

NSX is only in the cloud networking not cloud to cloud networking. Cloud Universal is not so universal. It doesn’t have a proper networking component. It’s a lot of fluff.
Cloud Universal includes NSX, vSphere, vSAN, vRealize, Tanzu, DR, cloud infrastructure options. The premise of Cloud U is great & customers love the flexibility. The marketing behind it and story are awesome! VMware sellers hate it because every two weeks leadership clusterfucks the program with new rules, pricing/packaging & limitations.

Very poor execution. And leaders incapable of making quick decisions.
Not only pricing issues, but the cloud universal doesn't have a networking component.
Not as uncommon as you think. Citrix has had the same type of pricing and packaging issues. They have Sales breathing down the neck for "old" licenses customers dmand, different mixes for packaging to try to make everyone happy, contractual obligations, legacy systems and processes for creating SKUs and packages, etc...
its a nightmare. Part of it is also because of management that will not put their foot down and make hard decisions. (thus the exact opposite of our new corporate overlords).
Don't think its odd. Its exactly what you find in other places of this size.
