Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

9/80s Question

For those of you working 9/80s, do you have to make personal appointments on your day off, or are you given more flexibility? EM employee here. We have been told we don't want 9/80s by mgmt, but I don't believe that.

EM pays more? Are you sure about that?

Exxon does not get 9/80s, but they also get paid more than we do.

If EM decides to give you 9/80s, I guarantee they will slow down pay acceleration. EM has to pay more because two of it's competitors (Shell and Chevron) both have 9/80s.

No I don’t schedule appointments on my 9/80 - that’s what sick leave is for!

Also most managers are pretty flexible with 9/80s and will let you switch them around, or in my case, do half-days every Friday.

We’re told to keep our time whole. I’ve never been told I couldn’t attend something at my kids school or an appointment.

He-l, all my appointments are made during my work week. That’s asinine to think you would wait until your day off. 9/80 schedule is great.
