Thread regarding VMware layoffs

What Do You Do?

What do some of you all do or actually don’t do that’s got you on edge about a possible layoff a year from now, that instead of working you’re writing on here during business hours?

It can’t be anything valuable because 1. You’re not working, per many of your own claims and 2. Who worries this hard about a potential something a year from now while working at a top company in the tech industry..Unless you’re useless at VMW meaning you’ll be even more useless at broadcom. Sounds like a lot of you know your job isn’t valuable in the first place and you’ve just been skating by with nice checks and benefits playing pretend work.

Won't happen until after March. The recent RSU's had a first for VMware special cliff vest of one third shares in March. This is timed to pay people off before Broadcom gets VMware.

Lists have been drawn up - just waiting on the financials to be released. Cuts come early September. Anyone still thinking this won't happen until next spring is delusional. Boatloads of RSUs granted in early August with the full realization that they will, as someone else so eloquently phrased it - disappear like a fa-t in the wind.

And the leadership team will "crop dust" us until then with the same old BS of "business as usual".

Ah yes. The Hostbridge comment- the same one that showed up on Blind. That is not a valid comparison. Comparing a company of TEN people versus VMW which is over 34,000. Interesting as these comments seem to be made by the same person.

Nobody except for the people undertaking the deal closing know whats going on. So those worried about the future can do one of the following.

  • Worry yourself about losing your job until the deal closes.
  • Do something constructive with whatever time we have left. Whether that time is 3 months, 6 months or a year, treat each day as if it could be your last day here. Update your resume. Reach out to your network. Get on Linkedin. Use that nervous energy to your advantage

If you are still working, then something is wrong with you. Concentrate on finding another job. Forget the severance. It isn't going to be easy with recession ahead with bad Q3 earnings results for most companies.

He makes a solid point about the RSU vesting. The latest round that is still a 4 year schedule, BUT vests 1/3rd in March (employees notified july/aug) is odd. They did this to move the finish line up/closer w/ a larger than normal payout...

The trick is that if we close PRIOR to that date, those RSUs vanish like a fa-t in the wind, if they dont want to accelerate them. And believe me, no one wants to spend more money than they have to. Why accelerate? just say "here is your WARN act 60 days, after that here is your severance, thanks" no need to accelerate anything.

@1jea+1iaZG3kR If you truly work for vmw stop lying about employee stock and be honest with what is really going to happen in September with espp. Either you don’t know because you don’t work here and being fed news via a dated or very slow “method” or you do know what’s happening but like to tell lies because it’s fun for you.

@anonymous - which other acquisition just closed “without a hitch”?

A year from now???? Hahaha. Who still believes that? No negative feedback from EU published. ESPP is closing this month. Business reviews are done by end of the month, and accelerated vesting for this year's RSUs is timed for March- ish.

And our buyer just closed another acquisition without a hitch and no negative fan fare. It would take a miracle at this point to delay closing an entire year. Seriously, the core business of vmware ain't that complicated, no matter what R&D is telling you.

Have you considered that perhaps the internal systems and infrastructures are so slow and decrepit that there is plenty of time sitting around waiting for things to happen?
