Thread regarding VMware layoffs

The level of privilege some have!

I am fascinated by the amount of people that work at VMware and think that it sucks, it’s a bad job, leadership is terrible, and that working at VMware is somehow a struggle and saying “cant wait to gtfo”. Where did you work before and where do you think you will work in the future, garden of eden? VMware has one of the best compensation packages, plenty of time off it’s almost ridiculous, work-life balance above all mentality, and frankly, on avg you probably work 20-30 hrs a week (Obviously I realize this depends on what you do). At VMware it really is more about the people than the actual work.

If you work at VMware and think it’s terrible, I am really scared for you. You will never be happy with a job and you will be unhappy at your work for the rest fo your life.

Good luck!

OP - toxic people are everywhere, including VMware. Consider yourself lucky that you haven’t been in a group at VMware where you are exposed directly or indirectly to that.

This has nothing to do with “privilege” and the fact that you think it does is actually a sign that you have very little life experience and a great deal of woke op-ed reading under you belt. Might want to put that on your resume…

My third tech company. The only real delta is that VMW pays well. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people say I’d leave but can’t make similar money.

Kind of. I correlate the complaining I see on here with the same complaining I see on Slack. Most of them are similar complaints and the people on Slack mainly come from the CB and Pivotal BU's.

“I am the only female on my team and am belittled on a dailey basis, so yes, I'd like to gtfo. Oh, btw, I know not all of vmware is like this, but you should check your own privilege before posting. Get off your high horse.”

You should go to HR and get employment lawyer to help you navigate behind the scenes. Cut your losses. Things will worse.

Document every meeting and interaction. Be a model employee in spite of how you are treated. If you’re being treated poorly they’ll likely tell Broadcom to get you first. Exit but don’t leave a job without having a good one lined up; unless it’s effecting your health.

There are people on here who may struggle mentally. There are also people who on here who may be sick, have lost a loved ones, are going through a natural disaster, etc.

We should be trying to uplift people who are commenting negatively, not lecturing to them on how privileged they are.

Wtf? Are you a mind-reader? How are you so gifted that you know the people posting are from CB or Pivotal?

I worked for Zayo before VMware. I worked with a guy that got laid off from VMware and I thought to myself "how do you get laid off from that puffball company?"

Well it turns out the answer is: Just like any other company. It's not like he failed to reach VMware standards. He just suddenly got laid off one day. Just like any other company.

VMware will lay off you, me, and every single person reading this without a second thought if the business justifies it. Just like any other company.

I've been here six years. VMware- it turns out- is Just like any other company.

Lmao, I worked for three different companies beforehand and they were sh-t.

Only difference between VMware and them is that VMware has rainbow colored sh-t. They're good at sugar coating and making people feel good.

Take off your rose colored glasses. VMware doesn't give a sh-t about you. No corporation does. They'll fire you tomorrow and then pop a 1,000 dollar bottle of champagne that evening.

OP seems to miss the point here. None of the discussions happening here have anything to do with VMW and everything to do with the acquisition. Being bought by a company with a nasty reputation for laying off huge chunks of the companies they buy and even then, being a less than wonderful place to work. VMW was the best company I ever worked for. If it had been up to me I would have stayed forever. But I've been at companies like BC and its not worth it. What you see here are people's emotions. Fear, anger, and frustration over this acquisition.
