It's no secret that UP is a miserable place from which everyone wants to escape. Almost everyone knew what kind of company this is now, and despite that they still applied here. Why? I'd advise even those who don't have many options to bypass this place.

Hire back All the 98s ex felons.
They had previous RR experience
Was watching a 1955 movie titled “The return of Jack Slade”. It is a western that depicts the year 1886. Union Pacific trains are shown in the movie, and there is a scene with guys in a bar who were complaining how miserable and degrading UP was to work for in 1886. Hilarious ! Looks like their reputation hasn’t changed much.
You know UP is in desperate situations when they start using temporary laborers from local labor express to work derailments . No on track training, not proper ppe , no rules , just the famous "we gotta get them trains rolling"
It’s no secret that I just soiled my pants in the crew room.
I don't see a problem in hiring non violent felon's.
I do see a problem with holier than thou types pretending they're better suited for a life of disappointments with the old UP because they have clean records.
It's kind of pathetic.
I been working for UP more than 20 years. I remember not too many years ago, that a convicted felon couldn't get a job at UP.
Why do you think they applied? Because they’re in prison and that’s who UP recruits now
The why is because some people don't have as many options for employment where they are. The other part of that is because the UP has lowered their standards by hiring non-violent felons. Many other places simply won't hire convicted felons at all because of their records. If you have any company hiring felons whether they're violent or not, speaks volumes about that company's integrity. I'm not against felons, and yeah some of them deserve a chance to change things in their lives for the better. The point of my response is about the negativity of it all. The UP is an industrial disaster just waiting to happen. What happens to those felons when the UP shows them negativity by laying them off? There's a greater chance that those felons will relapse and go back to their old ways that got them that felony. Anyone with two eyes, two ears, and two brain cells can see the UP isn't a good bet for any length of time. Some people just prefer to learn that lesson the hard way. It's sad to say that, but the RR's are not what they use to be anymore and the smarter people are staying away. Hence the reason for hiring felons.
They are bad to the bone.
