No one at the railroad can deny you of this. FMLA protects you. If you feel mentally overwelmed and do not feel safe call safety hotline.

Taking leave for stress isnt gonna solve being stressed? Uh, if someone is exhausted bcuz they spend most of their time being awake only at work then that can stress some people out. If the carrier wont keep enough on the xtra boards, wont stop deadheading to circumvent federal rest, wont keep people on reserve boards. etc etc etc. Then the more employees who take time off due to stress would FORCE the carrier to have to maintain more people being available. More people available = less people leaving on stress. Next prob will be for the guys who never take time off and need or want to turn and burn to pay for their (or their spouses) excessive spending. I cant wait to laugh at the jokers who take FMLA “stress” mostly on just the weekends 😂 What amazes me is that NO one ever discusses call windows with set days off. Let the carrier pick how many headcount they want in what windows of time, pay a guarantee, and if the carrier exhausts the call window its voluntary if an employee agrees to take a shove ahead of their call window. This is fixable, but is anyone willing to fix it?
Where do we go to get the coffee and cookies though I’m hungry
Confirmed! Talk to your MD and let them know how your lifestyle is and your stress. Depending on the MD you can get a bunch of monthly FMLA that you need for your condition.
@1hfy and no one needs your advice of having a cup of coffee with a friend and relax either.
It is you're welcome
@jat smh just worry about you nobody needs your advice go have a cup of coffee with a friend and relax.
@wbs How many people took only a day or two off through FMLA to get themselves right? How many of those people that took that time off came back and said "it's so nice to be back"? The answer for both questions is the same by the way. If you decide to quit, then that's your own choice. Oh wait, people are quitting because they're tired of the BS. I don't remember anyone saying they had psychology degrees, but you yourself said quitting was a terrible idea before you called the people that were giving the advice as "online life coaches"! I really don't care if you use FMLA or not. The FMLA is there for your use when needed. I don't keep score about who uses what and when. I worry more about my actual mental and physical health more than a lifestyle or my retirement. The last thing I really want to deal with when I get to retirement, is actually talking with someone who has an actual psychology degree because the job got to me.
Nice to see we have so many folks with their Psychology Degrees monitoring this site. So now we all know that if your stressed and need a day or two off to get yourself right you should just quit and give up your retirement and lifestyle. This is terrible advice, seems people that don’t like fmla users are all of a sudden online life coaches. C’mon gimme a break!
Most of the guys I know that went out and stress leaf came back refreshed they needed the extra time off that they don’t have because they don’t have paid sick leave.
When my manager is stressed he goes and stands by the stalls in the bathroom and breathes it all in. Said it helps him relax.
As mentioned, to leave your position for a short reprieve because of stress related issues then return right back into the stress of the job is frankly, a sign of insanity. The job won't change because you left.
Personally, if it's that bad, then you need to re-evaluate your life and priorities. If you're just working so you can pay for toys and a big shot lifestyle then you need to dump everything and refresh your life so you enjoy life, not being an indentured servant to a job. The railroad has no interest in your life, family or any other way, shape or form.
Why? You take a few weeks off and then what? You come back to very same thing you went out for. I've always been for protecting the employees rights, but going out for a few weeks because of mental stress solves NOTHING! I left because of the stress. I didn't take a break from it. If anyone has a job that is causing them to have stress related medical issues, then it's probably time to reevaluate the choices you've made. Sorry if I offend anyone, but seriously. Stress leave is not going to fix the issues at the RR that caused you to leave in the first place.
