CA CWA misleading members on Retiree Medical

CA CWA has “agreed” with FTR to change medical retirement to “bridge to Medicare” so once retiree turns 65 member and dependents LOSE medical coverage once this contract is ratified. Members who voted NO previously because of this assumed CWA was negotiating to keep current contract language/lifetime medical. Fact is, CWA settled for this new language and never discussed it with FTR again. CWA is saying we don’t have a VEBA with FTR which is BS as the VEBA exists on page 190. Because if CWA agreeing to this change everyone will lose this important piece of retiree medical.
Shameful!

I think you all may be oblivious as to how a Union works. None of our union Reps make any extra money they are employed by the same company and just hold a title. Their only job is to represent our contract, and get no other pay we are friends with them and see their lifestyles, they live just like us not high on the hog. And as for people assuming we are uneducated I have and associates degree and a lot of the employees I work with so as well. The job we do is highly technical and requires expertise. So please take your hatful talk else where. Maybe in an arena you have some interest in.

Please don’t speak for “us” as a whole. You’re basic grammar and spelling skills are atrocious. Also, bragging about an associates degree as some measure of intelligence (again your writing skills) is woeful. Regarding, your thoughts on union officers getting paid. The President and VP in every local do indeed get an extra stipend to their pay by the union. Your dues pay that every month. If we go on strike. They also continue to get paid though YOU and I don’t.

Perhaps you’re not aware of how unions work.

I see in the weekly California update on Union position the company has already agreed on all the things we care about, wages, job security etc. Union holding out for line jobs but we know they're only going to be there for a few years so no way the company will agree. We need to get this deal done and get the pay increase in our pockets. Its badly needed

Cracks me up how all the old, totally past it, what guys on here scream n kick about benefits as though they have a god given right to them. The Unions are corrupt and just businesses like any other. All they care about is their dues, and you all, like pathetic sheep just keep paying. Break free and stand on your own feet, you'll find it feels way better.......

How would you know? Judging by your grammar alone. I suspect you to be a welfare recipient. Or at best a fast food worker happy for your $22 an hour Gavin Newsance just gave to you and all your uneducated co workers.

Unions are about their leadership and how they come out rich. They do not care, nor have they ever cared about union members other than the dues they get, screaming in the media, encouraging illegal activities, etc They always cave before it becomes financially negative to them, not union members. Union leaders collect dues and provide very little return to its members, the leaders are getting rich off the backs of working folks, nothing more than big business taking folks for a ride

I’m confused. Are you talking about Frontier or the union. Seems like they are interchangeable with regard to your post.

Exactly! 900 Million. Let me repeat 900 MILLION!!! In a Trust solely for Retiree Medical which was contractual, and CWA just says “oops! It’s just gone. Nothing that can be done.”
REALLY CWA? My question is who is CWA really working for!?!?!

My question is. Who has the money. Did the union allow Frontier to use this money. Odd how they had to declare bankruptcy but then came out of it with over a billion in cash. Yeah I know some of that came from the fed for “covid” relief. But where the rest of the money come from. I’m think the company and the union split that money. If Verizon truly had that money the union would be hounding them with lawsuits etc. The union won’t walk away from a dime they have to gain. 900 million. They would be chomping at the bit for this money if they didn’t already have “their fair share”

"Bridge to Medicare" is very common in many companies and industries both union and non union.

Why do people post this kind of garbage. I don’t give a sh-t what’s common. That wasn’t our agreement. If you’ve been here for 25 years or longer under the promise of what was offered when you hired on. That’s the agreement. We accepted this in Lieu of pay. If they aren’t going to honor agreements they need to pay us for what they promised and won’t be delivering.

The union claims Verizon didn’t give us the money and there’s nothing they can do. Well the union is the one that convinced the membership to vote yes to come and work for this dog sh-t company that is Frontier. I figure the union is legally liable for their lack of follow up regarding the 700 million that THEY “forgot” to ask for. But like the company the union thinks the membership is stupid. They are sorely mistaken and if they try to sc--w us over. They will be the next ones in litigation.

Scummy concession.
Ask what Frontier saves vs. the bribes received.
100 to 1 ratio probably.
Scummy.
