I don't work at Google, but my dad does and I'm getting a bit worried with all the talk about layoffs. Lately, I've been reading about more projects being canceled but it never says what happens to people who worked on those projects. Are they laid off, moved to other projects, moved to other teams, or something else?

Thank you so much for answering! It's good to know that if his project is canceled, he won't be automatically laid off.
The employee gets a period of time (fully paid) to find a new team. Otherwise, they get severance.
Pre-2022, this hasn't resulted in anyone getting separated from Google.
I am not entirely certain how it will play out now.
