Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

Hires from big software companies

BP hired some people from big software companies. Has it helped the company?
Is software work at BP similar to that of a pure software company? BP probably offered very good compensations to these people.

Yes i&e “IT” is a hot mess. Anyone see the drop in where senior leadership literally smirks when talking about demotions? Morale is in the toilet.

My department is now headed by someone from Uber. Bright, but doesn't know anything about our business and doesn't really seem like she wants to learn. I think in order to compensate, she openly says she does not think anyone needs domain experience. We'll see how that works out....

Honestly, I prefer working for a company where software isn't the product, but it's something that supports the business. I feel like we are willing to buy when we need to buy, instead of feeling like we need to develop in-house all the time for sleep in our own bed and use our own software like where I came from.

Not sure what you mean? BP has a lot of ‘software’ so obviously need people that know about it?
