Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Dell isn't going to lay people off, they have already started.

Dell has started to offer long tenured employees who are close to retirement age packages. Their last day is this Friday (9/16). This is across the organization and in no specific group. Some of the people being offered packages don't seem very happy about leaving so whatever they are being told I'm sure its not completely voluntary.

Papa Dell's playbook in the past has been to see who takes the package and adjust his work force reduction accordingly so I full expect to see a second round of people being asked to leave.

I’m 62. My job was terminated and replaced with a role that had more responsibilities, more people for less salary and a lower percentage bonus. I was too old and too expensive.

Dell laid me of and then hired me back.. .my mistake I went back and wasted another four years. Hurt my career as I found out that Dell Sales folks are not looked at as top notch in the industry no matter what they think. I sold Networking and we were treated like barnyard animals by junior AEs who couldn't spell network and sold only servers and commodity laptops.

When i got my WFR notice they gave me $60K in cash which might sound good but they are just screwed most of the overlay networking team out of much more money owed by zeroing out out commission clock saying they had "misaligned" quota's at the start of the year. Despite being told legally that this was illegal in most states Dell did it and then a month later riffed us all. Got a letter two months later from Dell as they were being sued for age discrimination and had to post who was layed off and their ages to all in the group and yep every one of us save one person was over the aged of 50.

Slimy company... remember this is the same company and CEO who forced us to take a payout in 2012 and then went out and bought himself a new NYC Condo and executive jet for millions. He doesn't give a fig about his people, and believes he is so much above all of us. Met him once and I was on the phone to Japan , was speaking in japanese and he came over and told be to speak English to our customers... I just nodded and kept on. Guess he didn't like the fact that not all the talent resided in him or his horse holders.

The severance package is really not that good. Most of the people impacted are over the age of 50 and while they have extensive experience at a Fortune 500 company, will find it difficult to find a similar salary and benefits package. They will be required to sign a NDA to receive it and agree not to sue the company, Otherwise, you would be seeing a huge age discrimination class-action. This is a sad day for Dell. The "lucky" ones left at the company have had their workloads doubled.

The severance package depends on where you are located. It's posted thru many posts on this site.
