Of course, I don't think anyone should totally relax thinking that their job is safe. However, I'm still interested in what you think are the least safe jobs here at the moment?

The least safe is of course "Investor relations" - the company is no longer public.
It's obvious that Vista wants out of the software industry. They didn't hire a software visionary to expand the company and inspire people. Instead, they hired the Grim Reaper. Whatever new name they assign to the combined entity won't matter because it won't even exist in a couple of years. The pieces - oh, sorry, "business units" - will be sold off.
Also people that will be in redundant roles after the merger.. this means managers, admin, legal, HR and facilities.
As already mentioned Marketing has been decimated at TIBCO and also Recruiters in the HR department
going on the logic so far in this thread.
Renewals focus = products in maintenance mode, therefore as much engineering will not be needed.
Marketing centralised = poor outcomes for large expense, wipeout and start again with lower cost resources and fewer bodies
Sales = overpriced resources, need less and lower paid personnel to do renewals. ie Renewals becomes Sales. Major removal of all layers of Sales Management back to a flat structure.
Sales Ops. Too many layers and managers.
If you’re qualifying who’s safe and who’s not then you’re probably going to be disappointed when the dust settles. These cuts will affect every single department across the company. There has been a lot of news and finger pointing at sales and marketing, but those two departments alone won’t produce the type of cost cutting that Krause needs to pay back the billions in debt owed to the banks.
Loving the comments from Engineering. Get ready, friend. Lol
The marketing group at TIBCO was decimated in the first round of cuts. Krause doesn't like marketing.
Can't tell you whose the least safe, but Engineering is the MOST safe for sure. Go us!
As someone that works in Marketing — I’m telling you it’s Marketing. This is, currently, a highly centralized function. That doesn’t match the business unit structure that will be the future. Additionally, Marketing currently spends A TON of money. We already know that Krause is here to cut costs — not continue to spend it. Finally, many of the positions will no longer be needed as Krause migrates away from a growth model. He’s going to be all about renewals, and not very concerned with new business.
Having said all this — if your dept is also focused on growth, let’s say maybe Sales Dev, that might be another “not-so-safe” area.
The cuts will be deep. They will err on the side of too few, not too many.
