Given so many people are leaving and what we all know will happen is rapidly approaching..... is it possible to get fired? Have you seen anyone terminated for anything in the past 3-6 months?

Not the way to exit your position.
If you get put on a PIP better to just look for something else, it rarely gets you back to 100% in your managers favor
It can vary, but yes it usually its a month or 2, then immediate termination.
But keep in mind, if your manager goes through the trouble of putting you on a PIP, they probably are hoping you don't succeed, and want to get rid of you ASAP. It's really all about building a case against you, proving that you were not meeting clear expectations.

How long is the PIP? 1 month? If can't meet the PIP goals, get fired immediately?
Also if your manager does terminate you, chances are very bad that they will get a backfill approved. So that's another incentive for them not to do it.
But VMware has always used layoffs as its preferred method for sub-par employee removal, as will Broadcom. :)
Its always been hard to get fired from VMware, but it's not impossible.
In order to be terminated, you must first be put on a PIP (Performance Improvement Plan), which involves setting clear and measurable goals for you to achieve within a certain amount of time. Its a lot of work for your manager, very annoying to do.
The question comes down to, how much of a slacker are you, and how much does your manager, not like you
