Pivotal/CF was always a POS, but the arrogance within the company always amazed me. Good to see the hammer finally fall.
Hopefully sooner than later. I was naive and joined this business unit in early May. I have never met a more narcissistic group of people in a business setting. These people have made my life a living h*ll since joining. I wouldn't be sad if they got humbled a little, let's just say that... Especially the sales team.

If I “was a k8s” vendor I’d just hire the 1% of our Tanzu k8s team that has a brain and not the rest of the half wits.
Does anyone of you see any remote possibilities on a fusion with another minor K8s vendor like Suse, Canonical or D1iq or others?
Maybe even Redhat maybe interested on some of the open source Java products (ex Spring?)
Suse acquired Rancher a year ago or so, they can maybe be interested on gaining market share in this way?
But above all: Anyone has a vague idea on the value that Tanzu can intrinsically have if sold? If I remember correctly VMware bought Pivotal for something like 2.5B? It was probably an overestimated value. Can be worth like 1B at the moment? Or even less?
Can Hock maybe just let the division go for a small amount of money if another solution can be found just to let it go and don't think about it anymore?

Maybe that rebranding is part of having a “grown up” in the room that told them they you can’t slap the name on random unrelated products and think that the name will have any meaning…
Or they now want “Tanzu” to be that core set of bad products that must be wrapped up into a ball so it can be sold off…
Either way, purge away. Judgement day has come.
There are rumors that some of the products inside the division are trying to rebrand the names by removing Tanzu and just leaving VMware. Not sure if it is a desperate attempt to save them or what....
I hope the Tanzu K8s focued teams have a long painful death. The shittiest product with the shiftiest people.

You can’t be too nice to these toxic and arrogant stronzos who should have been fired a long time ago.
So a few thoughts....
- Undoubtedly the BU as it stands today will no longer exist in the near future. Everything is being stripped down and unraveled, the writing is on the wall plus the numbers are dreadful. You have to face the facts at this point
- It would look really bad to layoff a BU prior to the sale. Imagine the signaling to the rest of the company? Plus, the timing before the EoY would be curious. Even if you have to lay off the BU, why not wait until Feb? Has VMW ever done a Nov layoff? The only caveat there is if a buyer would take possession immediately but I don't see that happening until the BC sale is official. The only thing IMO that keeps the MAPBU in play after February is if the BC acquisition is scheduled to close shortly thereafter. Even then I doubt the BU lasts beyond Q1 on next year.
- Regardless of this end of Sept talk, the BU leadership knows something. Certainly the core teams are behaving as though Tanzu is going away. Have you seen the 1H and q2 numbers across the other BUs? Now compare to tanzu.
- With Vpshere+ coming the Core will be the major selling motion for Tanzu next year. If you don't believe me, look at the product sheet
- Even if everything I said above is wrong, and somehow the BC sale falls through.....how do you feel about the prospects of the BU in the next FY? If you thought it was hard before trying doing this again with a even more limited product set
- Any company who buys this product or BU will be a place you would not want to work. Any truly innovative company could engineer a superior product to Tanzu and if Tanzu is attractive to them they are probably grasping at straws for relevancy and remaining competitive within their key accounts. To make matters worse, (though I can't confirm this) but supposedly if such an event happens, that is considered a transfer. Should you refuse the transfer you lose your job and you get no severance
Well in theory Tanzu people maybe very non profitable but should be the ones with more possibilities to get a new job: Kubernetes, containers, devops, software engineering (Spring, data ecc) are quite in deman!
Who would buy Tanzu?
Boss has been MIA and unwilling to talk about it. So who TF knows. Get your resume polished and start applying.
I work in Tanzu and am ready for them to just let us know. I'm sick of getting lied too.

Rumor has it, that Hock already found a buyer for Tanzu
Hopefully after April 2023 so we can get the annual bonus at least!
