Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Macy's Livingston Mall

According to operations manager, Macy's in Livingston, NJ will be closing by April 2023, the date of the lease expiration on the building. Macy's has decided not to renew the lease on the building. This due to numerous factors such as the store performance, as well as other nearby Macy's (Ex. Short Hills, Willowbrook, West Orange Backstage) which have all produced much higher sales per square foot.

Disappointed that the store has closed. It was a very convenient location. Although there is Backstage in W.Orange, it's not the same as Macy's. Short Hills is ok but not quite as convenient. It is what it is. I guess I 'll save money.

As of this post, January 2024 Macys Livingston Mall is still open but most of the stores in the mall have closed. Barnes & Noble is still open.

Heard that Macys Livingston owns their store area of the mall and does not have to abide by leasing rules that the rest of the mall does.

I don't think Quakerbridge will close its too much a mis-run fiasco with pi-s poor management , horrible Ops and over zealous AP.. plus the walk thru is just a dog and pony show. you also have exhausted employees who look on the brink of collapse . employees trying to throw each other under a bus this is what macys loves and Jeff the CEO crook wants.. aint going no where !

That mall was just sold not to long ago I think. The new owner is not a good person at all he/they need to invest some big money into that place and he need to let the people that he says he trust run the place and stop sticking his nose in the in’s and outs of the mall.

Honestly I’m surprised this store isn’t already gone if not at least downsized. Livingston is a mall that shouldn’t exist with all the retail nearby.
As for Brunswick, that is a mall and Macys store that is slower then usual. It’s very close to Woodbridge and the premier mall of the area being Menlo Park. However, I think that one does decent enough to stay.

They tried to revive that mall but no go. Not a surprise to me. I can see Mays Landing closing although they are actively working to expand Fulfillment. It’s sad what that mall has become. I disagree with Quakerbridge as that store and mall have always been busy. Brunswick Square is a question mark as Macys owns the building, not a lease situation although it is slow.

Livingston and Mays Landing will both be gone next year. Both leases are expiring next year. Plus, they are in dead malls.

Brunswick Square is next if they don’t invest in it. That mall is dead.

Confirmed. Macy's actually has a 5-year option on the lease of the building up until 2028. However, they have decided it wasn't worth it to exercise the option, therefore, they will vacate in April 2023 after the term of the lease on the building is up.

Your right. Its unfortunate but not surprised. That particular location was a ghost town at 4 pm on a Saturday. Also, there is hardly any selection there compared to other Macy's. Also the elevators and store condition as a whole has been on decline. I figured that they were letting this store go sooner than later.
