Thread regarding VMware layoffs

This isn't that bad

I was upset at the wait at first, but now I realize that until the sale is finalized we're all safe. Hiring is continuing as usual, nobody is mentioning layoffs, and nothing will happen to disturb the status quo until the ink is dry. So relax and enjoy this rare period of job security, for as long as it lasts.

Still no hiring freeze, but it will happen anytime soon. Afaik there are positions management need to cover based on priorities, and management from the upper level has to approve it, that doesn't mean "business as usual" or "hiring freeze", meaning vacant positions will be covered depending on business priorities.

At some point hiring freeze will happen and no vacant position will be covered.

Hires are starting in NEMEA.
Agree it could be a BU or country level.
But there is no mass hiring freeze.

Constant hiring. I am seeing tons of people on LinkedIn and internally saying how they joined vmware. If you are in a freeze think about why and if your BU is getting axed.

@tiktoktan the question was about back office prepping for a VMware employee layoffs. Not laying off backoffice employees. Hope you get the difference.

@qus+1i8SYxmF Yes I may not be that connected. But if you know something why don’t you share the details? That’s the whole point of this platform.

The freeze was absolutely real, anyone joining had offers prior to it. I think priority recs are now being filled though. ignorance is bliss lol

I see no signs of a Q3 hiring freeze, so must be at a BU level.

This person is in la-la land! Q3 hiring is 100% frozen and backfills frozen. Sounds like you are believing the fake news from mgmt!! You better wake up! The back office is preparing the reductions now. That is TRUE.

We might have awhile till the axe falls. Depending how long the EU investigation takes, this could take till October 2023. Use this time wisely to skill up to be able to pivot. When layoffs come, you are going to be competing with potentially thousands of others suddenly in the job market with similar skills.

Stop dreaming and get back to reality my friend. The rods are being heated in the desert sand to shove it up in your bu**. Sorry to be so hard and brutal, but this is the reality. Just imagine the bloodshed once the acquisition is done and then it will be too late.

I don't know where you are working but status quo is not what is going on right now. Entire multi-year initiatives and projects are being scrapped. People are hanging out in limbo who were tied to some of these things while others have either left or been cut. Just because it isn't raining at your house doesn't mean it isn't raining in the neighborhood.
