Thread regarding Marathon Oil Corp. layoffs

They don't care about the best people leaving

Majority of the most skilled and experienced workers have already left. It is surprising that the management does not seem to mind that the remaining talented people are leaving as well.

Do they even think about the future of this company? Are any of them worried that this is becoming a company of mediocrity?

It is easy to lose excellent people, but it is very difficult to attract them.

HAVE SOME RESPECT!
the best people remain and are in senior management leading the company forward through the terrifying storm of money flowing in the windows. Management has to work hard to find ways to pi-s the money away on poorly timed stock buybacks, dividend lifts and purchasing assets that most fools would run from.

Are you purposefully being dense? You have to pay to play and we are reaping the benefits (ie cash flow now) from years of successful growth and cost cutting. It's called growing pains. We were a dinosaur headed for extinction and now we've risen from the ashes like a phoenix. No one is better positioned than we are at the moment.

How, in any understanding of the word, is Marathon growing? Apart from a small bolt on here and there, Marathon hasn't made an acquisition in over 5 years. We are returning our free cash flow to shareholders, rather than using them to fund reinvestment or acquisitions. We are rapidly depleting our inventory with no plans to replace it, and that is something everyone on Wall street understands.

Devon and Conoco are growing companies. Marathon is just pumping cash until we get parceled out to the highest bidder.

Talk about biting the hand that feeds. Marathon is a growing company that pays well with good benefits. The new office, and its location, really make it a great place to work.

Did you see our last quarter results? $2 billion in cash flow! That only happens with great leadership and great assets.

People just don’t want to work.

So many bitter people. Only the best of the best were retained during layoffs. Period. If some of those people leave, then good. More food for the real sharks that actually want to be here. There’s still too much dead weight and there’s no where to hide now. Get with the program or GET OUT!!!

It warms my soul to see people leave on Linked-in and then the job posting a few days later. There’s a Bakken engineering job at MRO posted right now on Linkedin with zero applicants.

They made their bed, have fun laying in it.

My opinion is that MRO management is scared of exceptional employees. They might take their jobs because they are more qualified than themselves. MRO management would rather have mediocre employees that are yes men with no goal of advancing so they feel more secure in their positions.

Lee Tillman has single handedly destroyed an industry legend. Business school will teach case studies about kodak, blockbuster, and marathon.

For those of you sticking around age 24-38. Why? Your peers are making moves, adding acreage. MRO is not. MRO isn’t going to invest in their people, and have not done so effectively since 2018. The writing is on the wall. Burn up the last few acres and ride the production while we can. I have little to no sympathy for the “yes-men/women” sticking around working for the terrible management in place. When your only strategy is to throw dirt on people to make yourself look good, that’s not what you want to work with or for.

Treat your employees poorly and they will leave. I don’t feel bad even a little for this place. I hope more people leave. Maybe some of those bloated managers can roll up their sleaves and actually do some work. Oh that’s right, they’ve never actually done the job they’re supposedly supervising.
