@1lnd+1i7T4L4J LMFAO…You are missing the point. “ Not many enterprise (top 100) customers think VMW is strategic to their vision”. Hock doesn’t care about strategic vision of any of his BU products. He only cares whether he can squeeze margins and raise prices, with some minor level of investment. It’s about business model, not developing IT capabilities that are “strategic” to his customer base….
@wmt+1i7T4L4J Octane acquired CA for Mainframe business (he’s stated many times it’s a money machine). He tried dumping more of the other parts of CA, but had few takers given their lame technology. VMW is only of value for those sticky parts that drive profit/margin, and where there’s a control point. A good chunk of VMW might not make it, eg sold off, and that might not be a bad outcome for some people.
If I was HT, I would pay the penalty and call it quit with VMW. He has a well functioning machine and should aim at acquiring other assets that are cheap in valuation rightnow. VMW is a titanic that will suck lot of value out of AVGO. Not many enterprise (top 100) customers think VMW is strategic to their vision.
Sure. The person is describing vmware from about a decade ago at least. They have not been leading or transformational in a long time. A lot of the recent products don't work or are incredibly buggy on release. The crown jewel of VCF is still a mess. When you release a product that needs to be forklifted with heavy services engagement to upgrade it, that is just awful. Competitors have caught up and other technologies are overtaking vmware.
Thoughts? Its a generic re-phrasing of what has already been mentioned before but this time with more bland word-salad meaningless marketing lingo thrown in.
About CA/Symantec: Both companies under invested in their businesses, resulting in execution issues and declining service quality to existing customers.
About VMware: VMware is a pioneer in enterprise software with a lot of large enterprise customers that use their technologies and the scale needed to support other customers in the channel. In combining VMware with Broadcom Software Group, we are adding a high-quality company with best-in-class technology and talent, as well as a promising roadmap.
The VMware thing is a lie. You could easily talk about it in the same key and tone as about CA or Symantec. So this is some kind of damage control. And if Hock really is that misguided to believe VMware is better than Symantec...just imagine how bad things could get.
Don't walk. Run away.
