Some of the best people are gone and some of the slackers are still here. I guess their brown-nosing paid off.

That can be the shadowy thing about mass layoffs. It may be easy for a company to keep out of the limelight the stats of who was selected for termination and who was not selected, amongst those on the same team/department. It would behoove someone to initiate a deeper dive into the diversity breakdown within the masses who've been released so far.
Too bad I have pride and would never stoop so low even to protect my job.
