20yrs ago I totally F’d up! I had been accepted to the border patrol academy but there was a temp freeze. While I was waiting for a class to start I applied at UP and was hired. Within a year after I started at UP I got called up to attend the next class at the academy. I figured both jobs were comparable, I was working in the town I wanted to be in (no guarantee BP would assign me where I wanted to live) so I stayed at UP. My buddies in BP work no overtime, live where they want to, never get called in on their days off and are paid over $100K a year. I made a huge mistake.
Are you sure it's not the referral bonus? Is the border patrol offering a $10,000 referral bonus? Sorry I would go read the newsletter but it had no content and went directly in the recycle bin.
I’ve decided to start my own program it’s called W55 operating ratio. I’ll work at a 55% pace and I’ll do it 55% of the time. It works I haven’t broken a sweat yet. I figure in inflation and lack of pay for my program.
Other roads like Bnsf are offering 5k and up. Why do people keep quitting again can someone please tell me? Oh I know cuz this place is miserable from the policy’s to the pay. I love the oh you guys are overpaid at 75k a year and the people telling us that make 200k to a mill plus bonuses. Talk about getting gaslight. The smart people that work here in the crafts should be doing the absolute bare minimum because that’s what is fair at this point. No decent raise =no decent help.
Ok, so what’s your point? They are totally different jobs, in different industries. Meeting the qualifications for the Border Patrol is totally different than for a railroad.
