What do you guys think about as a regional SA / SME for NSX Advanced Load Balancing for EMEA ? Is it a safe role given the current circumstances ? I am evaluating such an offer which is very competitive..

I like Steve personally - he did an amazing job with NSX and VMware were smart to purchase the company and the product. But it's another opinion based on speculation on the way "Broadcom has handled prior acquisitions". Point is - no one knows what will happen nor how Broadcom will manage this. What we do know is this - Hok must turn a profit with VMware - and he will do that by cutting costs, heads whatever - but it's a balancing act and he knows he can't treat VMware the way prior acquisitions have been handled. Time will tell.

Is it just me, but why would you come visit a site talking about layoffs when you don't even work for the company any longer. I sure hope my life is never that pathetic that I am tracking this site when I move on.

Also, the guy that wrote this article that used to work at VMware. I didn't know him, but what a piece of work he must be. Thanks for telling us everything we already know, and you too, should move on with your pathetic life and existence.

I left at 4yrs 10 months (last week) and I tend to agree. Anyone with a longer tenure got content and whilst they will get a nice severance, it will also be a wake up call. The guys I know with 10+ years are stuck in the old ages. One guy I know is there for over ten years and his skill set is pretty much identical. Updated. Maybe. But at the core the same. If you think you can walk into another company with your VMware name on the resume with a core skill set of vSphere and VCF, think again. Heck I am at VMware for six odd years (but just resigned) and I have installed vSphere last time at 5.5. Changes a heck of a lot in terms of skills. I even removed my VMware certs from LinkedIn. Core vSphere feels like such a dated technology

Nobody should have stayed at VMware for more than five years…if you did, either you were ranked up to protected manager or smart enough to hide and avoid detection…anybody with any business acumen must have seen how bloated and non dynamic the company was. Buying other companies to increase your revenue is not innovation, but there were masters spinning that cr-p through the cultish words of senior leadership.

“Anybody at VMware is fooling themselves thinking, ‘Oh, this is all going be fine.’ No, it’s not. Most of the people at VMware are not going to be there.”

Right on.

He has an axe to grind …. and an opportunity to grab VMW employees. Sadly he is not wrong about anything he said. Some people still are ignoring what is written on the wall.

NSX is a manure fire. The guy brought it to vmware that way, and it's not gotten better in all these years.

It's great that he's brilliant in repeating what everyone else is saying, but what value did he bring to the conversation?

While I don't exactly disagree with what he said.... The guy has an axe to grind for sure and I find it in poor taste to trash talk one company and then brag about your own. Unprofessional.

“Think about those people at VMware that have been there for 20 years. Where are they going to go? Most of them will only be able to work at VMware, but VMware is going away now. So now what are they going to do?”

^^^^ this is the sentiment of most of the people with tenure at VMware and why it is so scary for them. Young g-ns don’t care, they job hop every 12 - 18 months regardless. The geriatrics are going to get the worst of it all. Hopefully wherever they are trying to go will have some diversity and inclusion programs for oldies.
