Thread regarding 2U Inc. layoffs

Is 2U going to retreat from OPM business entirely?

From the teams most impacted by layoffs, it seems like the early cuts are deepest in the side of the business that manages OPM deals with universities. I'm just an observer, but given the growing scrutiny of revenue-sharing deals, it would make sense to me to really pivot away from that business and focus on non-degree credentials. Insiders, does that feel like what is happening? Will 2U stop signing new OPM deals entirely?

I think it’s more that the teams in those departments will be a part of the “optional” part if the product stack for future contracts- ie career services and curriculum design. Eventually some will go in marketing since paid marketing won’t be a big part of “core bundle”. Not sure yet if they will be letting partners renegotiate current contracts. Google “2u bundle” and check out the “stackable bundles” graphic.

(this is all my opinion/takeaway) I think this is DEF a deflection from some of the bad press, and negative opinions towards OPMs. But based on the meeting earlier, partners can opt into various OPM-like services, they just won't be strong armed into the whole package
