I may be in minority but want the deal close in the next 6 months. The writing is on the wall. Need closure so i can get my severance and move on. Sorry just venting.

I hope the severance payments are pushed to next CY - a big payout in Q4 will be eaten by taxes.
Most likely close in 6-8 months with whoever getting the pink slip one month before similar to robinhood. I heard people are not trying anymore and just putting C level work, theres really nothing leadership can do.
I want this to drag on for as long as possible. Only because I want as long of a runway to find a new job. There seems to be only one thing on people's minds here and that seems to be whether they are going to be laid off or not. I say that because even if you make it you're then going to be working at what sounds to be a company that has none of the values and none of the emphasis on employee well-being that VMW does. Both outcomes are IMHO equally bad. In fact if one were to make me choose, I'd say the later is actually worse. I can smell a nasty company from a mile away. I spent years working at a company like that and there is no way in he-l I will go through that again.
I have been having a number of interviews with companies. But this has taken a ton of work and resumes. The job market is not ideal now. And its going to get worse as more and more tech companies cut their head counts. 1000's have been laid off this week alone. All of this adds to the difficulty of landing a new job.
This should serve as a reminder to anyone working in this industry. The industry is extremely volatile. We are all just one board's decision away from being sold off to the highest bidder. Ultimately the only person who can determine your future is you. So its your choice. Stay at a company about to be taken over by a less than ideal company and risk getting laid off or decide to be proactive and find something new before it happens. How long this deal will take is a guess. Act accordingly.
feel the same, but decided to take my destiny into my own hands. You don't have to have corporate-taking career decisions for you, if you don't like a place, you are not a tree, you can move elsewhere.
Well, I want it to be as later as possible. It's going to be difficult to get into such a good company as VMW, so the later the better. In the meanwhile I'll be enjoying the take-a-break days, company days, and hopefully year shutdown days. I'm not in a rush to lose that, honestly.
Sadly, I think you speak for the silent majority. Moral is gradually ebbing away with the uncertainty, standards are through the floor and escalations through the ceiling, those who used to care are barely turning up these days.
With the exception of two blindly optimistic people I work with everyone I know is holding out for severance, which is creating a very negative vibe.
People in the know believe the earliest will be November and the latest will be March 2023. Who knows what the truth is, but apparently things are moving along as planned. Whatever that means. Severance is never a guarantee though so my recommendation is one of two options. Wait and see what happens or find something now. I know I will be cut so I am just waiting to be cut, will take some time off and then find another job (out of the industry) after a few months. My workload has dropped considerably so I am doing a variety of things between now and my eventual firing. Good luck!
honestly i hear you.
Not going to happen
i dont think youre in the minority
You are not going to get sev package if they sell your BU to someone else and we know who are the major players are HCL, Wipro, Infosys, TCH etc etc.. and trust me you won’t like it there. They might keep your pay the same but benefits might not be the same and they will have offshore guys learn everything you do in six months and then drive you crazy so that you quit on your own.
I feel the same exact way.. 😥
