Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Skills atrophy

Don't get me wrong - I'm no cheerleader, but when someone starts talking about the atrophy of skills at Qualcomm, it really gets on my nerves. Why do people think that Qualcomm is to blame for the fact that their skills have atrophied? That's so childish.

A lot of explanation here are just d-mb. Most people on here think Qualcomm is a tech company and that is there mistake! Qualcomm is a commodity company! You are an orange 🍊 picker! Orange picking hasn’t changed over the years and you can become a great orange picker at Qualcomm. But don’t get it twisted! You are not learning anything at Q that other tech companies value! Most people just don’t realize what kind of company hey are working at

I agree. This applies to any company.

The only person responsible for your skills is you.

If you feel you aren’t growing - let management know. If they can’t help you, find another job or get more schooling to do what you want.

Ok, mate.

The pcb layout software you’re stuck with in San Diego requires a team of support engineers. Future career growth prospects include automotive and military.

My enjoyment comes from driving devices on the shelves at big box stores. Constant workflow improvement with better tools. No shortage of recruiters reaching out to me.

No regrets here.

What?

You’ve never been trapped in a large company as a niche player in a team workflow that just keeps doing things the same way?

Bummer.
