Thread regarding VMware layoffs

VMware Explore low registration numbers

Are these numbers for real?

  • Total registrants: ~4,700
  • Paid: ~3,000
  • Goal: ~8,000

Didn't VMworld used to get about 20,000+ registrations? These numbers seem way, way down.

2019 before the pandemic, I think I heard VMworld was 25K attendees.

VMExplore is such a bad name. They should have stuck with VMworld, it has brand.

Anyway, that is not the reason for low attendees, customers don't think VMware is relevant any more, they now go to Amazon Reinvent. Plus Hock Tan will cancel them.

Yes. It used to be arnd 20k attendees.

companies learned they could do meetings and sessions w vendors virtually... why pay 2kb for a pass, 500 a night for hotels and food plus airfare to send someone to a company's marketing event,,,

He-l some companies even cut their travel budgets... like the EUC BU did. Yes. EUC at vmw never increased its T&E budget for 2022 from 2021 numbers... did they not think our customers would do the same!

Octane will cancel these events going forward on day 1. CA World was scheduled two weeks before the deal closed and once Nov hit poof no more.

Rebranding and pi----g off a bunch of customers by not granting alumni benefits moving forward probably didn't help.
