Considering the amount of whinging on this site, why does no-one ever strike for improved pay and conditions? Are people happy and contented?

How come there seem to be more redundancies at union sites compared to non union sites?

Given that they have had more than 10 reorgs or redundancy rounds in recent years maybe the reps are just knackered. Latest redundancy round in Wales announced this week.
Some of the negative comments on this thread sound like they are from management or HR trying to put people off the union. I'd rather have the support of the reps during a redundancy process than not.
No surprising considering who the reps are, impotent and incompetent.
CGG doesn’t look after the employees so why not

The union at the Welsh sites have no teeth, they don't even support or defend individuals, never mind fight for their members as group
I’d say compared to the industry CGG under pays its employees and that’s not going to change.
i have never seen any union activity at the english sites.
i doubt there are even any union representatives in england.
hpw can we join a union if we dont know which one wants to support us.
Our company couldn't be more farcical if it tried1 The English sites aren't in a union but they want to join one. The welsh sites are in a union but get paid less than the English sites. The French sites are in a union but it's so powerful they have to vote regarding what software to use!
Management must be rubbing their hands at all this!
Move to Massy and join the French union - that might work. Note which centre is overmanned and expensive.
Jeez they even had to take a vote over there to switch software.

If the conditions and pay are that bad who cares if the work moves to Houston? Also aren’t Houston wages much higher than UK?
Go ahead and strike. Then watch your operations move to Houston, always the cash cow, where unions are practically unknown.
If you want low pay go join the union. Despite working from home now being a thing the Welsh sites are the lowest paid CGG sites in the UK. Non union sites pay more!!

Yes, CGG knows the French unions are strong, and the British ones aren't, so they take advantage of the situation.
There might not be union support in England, but there is in Wales. The sites there are unionised.

Also some people may not agree with withdrawing their labour. Maybe they just want to get on and do a good job, and expect the company to behave as it should. Why do WE have to teach it how to be a good employer? We had no reason to strike before CGG took over.
Wise Guy from Jersey comes across as extremely self centred and unsympathetic to his fellow colleagues. There aren't only geoscientists employed at CGG oh wise one!!
Absolutely! Why don't employed geoscientists, unknown and unemployable in any other sector of the economy besides where they happen to be, join together and simultaneously refuse to work, while for every one of them there are two unemployed! Great idea! Nobody would ever consider crossing the picket line!

As CGG is 'that' sort of company wouldn't it make sense if all employees joined the union.

maybe because not many are in the union, also we are aware that CGG is the sort of company that would ensure striking would affect your future prospects.
