How do people turn off worrying and stressing?

It's my first long weekend in a while and I can't even enjoy it.

Focus on what you need to do to make a proper exit. You’re focused on what happens if you do nothing. Make a plan and then work the plan. You’ll be energized not worried.

This is the best question on here for a while. I am a people manager and I am worried about the stress levels of two of my team members with the levels of worry they are carrying about this.

I am worried and stressed about it myself too. Logically I know that both they and I will come out the other side of this one way or another with a job somewhere, but neither they, nor I seem to be able to rationalize it.

I want to help them calm a bit as I think that’s driving my worry too.

It’s not easy. Every day is tough, and the longer this draws out, the worse it is for some people. The good news, this deal won’t close until November (at the earliest) and may take a lot longer. Either way, we have time to reevaluate our financial situation and what is important to us.

Anxiety is “what if” oriented; so ask yourself “what is”.

Often anxiety shows up as a sense of “impending doom”. It is a fear of a possibility. “What if this or that happens?” The feeling of anxiety is rooted in the unknown future.

You can short-circuit its grip on you by focusing your attention on the known present. Engage with concrete things in your environment that channel your thoughts to real and current realities. (Clean and sort one drawer of your desk. Do a sudoku puzzle. Count as many things in your environment as you can find that are red or circular, or living, or made of wood, etc…)

Let yourself feel the anxiety, sit with it. Say outloud, "I am anxious". Let whatever emotion comes with the anxiety flow out. If you feel like crying, let the tears roll. If you feel angry, hit a pillow.

Everything you're feeling during this time is normal. Sitting with your emotions and allowing yourself to process them will help you to move forward instead of feeling stuck.

Take care! ❤️

This is not a rhetorical question, I'd really like to know.
