Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Official Sears Hometown Store count now just 175

I counted up all of the remaining stores in the official Sears Hometown Store list at https://www.searshometownstores.com/store-list, and came up with just 175. I don't know how reliable the official list is, but I do know that it shows many fewer stores than it did just a few months ago. When I first looked at this list, it had over 300 stores.

The official list includes the seven company-owned "Appliance & Mattress" and "Home & Life" small-format Sears stores, but I have excluded them from my count here. I've put an asterisk (*) next to the seven states with these stores.

If you go to the hometown website and try clicking on a particular store it not take you to that particular stores page except the appliance/mattress and home/life stores. Also if you go to Sears.com and try and search the hometowns have been removed from there as well.

The five remaining company-owned small-format stores, which are not Sears Hometown stores, are

Fort Collins, CO (Appliance & Mattress)
Overland Park, KS (Home & Life)
Lafayette, LA (Home & Life)
Camp Hill, PA (Appliance & Mattress)
Pharr, TX (Appliance)

To the poster below, what 5 small format (company owned) stores are there? I thought they recently closed 2 such stores in AK & HI? So there are still 5 left after those closings?

There are 15 "regular Sears" stores left, two of which are wrapping up their liquidation by the middle of this month. There are also five small-format Sears stores (company-owned, not Hometown).

Why are there over 100 of these d-mb stores left? I thought they were on their way out, and most (if not all) were closing? 129 is too many. We are down to about 20-30 regular Sears, and only 8 Kmarts, so 100+ Hometowns are too much. Trim that down to under 10, Eddie! Sears is obsolete. There should never be more stores of ANY of their formats, than I can count on 2 hands. Keep it under 10 of each, please, Ed. This is the equivalent of having 100+ Blockbuster videos, which would make no sense in 2022. I Know there is one location open in Oregon, but that is just a novelty for nostalgia, not because anybody REALLY has an urgent need to go rent a DVD or VHS tape, or whatever. You can do that at any Redbox for around $1.

TL/DR: Trim these down, Ed.. Keep it to 10 or less, please. We're in 2022, not 1992.

https://www.facebook.com/SearsHTSSterlingCO/posts/pfbid02UrVkKDzAEjtkZwpxfSxyDaw7VHsM8yMfhdV4HMK8BW1oUPqH5BswxVcooiv2AihKl says their last day will be Friday, December 9, so it will be a few more days before it comes off the official store list.

That will take us down to 129 on the official list. And other people have posted that at least 9 or 10 of the official list's stores are actually closed already.

We may be down to as few as 136, if this other post is correct. (It omits nine stores from the 145 still listed on the Sears Hometown site, saying they are already closed.)

This is not official in any way. The home/life or appliance/mattress (why two names for the same damn thing?) stores are corporate stores, not hometown.

You're including some of the Home & Life and Appliance & Mattress stores, which I excluded. Still, our numbers are pretty close to each other.
