Thread regarding Northwestern Mutual layoffs

Anti-Choice Organization

Anyone else concerned with NM’s “both sides” stance on ROE? Seems like their D&I initiatives were what I thought- plain and simple pandering.

Well I suppose that when their policy holders die from botched abortions or ruptured ectopic pelvises and fetuses are insurable, they can take a more firm stance.

Every company in the public eye announces a very carefully worded, legally approved sanitized statement. It's why NM has an army of lawyers and pays millions to outside legal counsel. NM is hardly an outlier in terms of its approach here. Read the statements of any publicly traded or prominent company not named Chick-fil-a or Hobby Lobby.

Political aspects of this have little/no benefit to debate in the workplace, but the choices on health plan coverage are a clear reflection on viewpoint since NM is self funded.

While more lives = more business for the company as a whole, healthcare costs for pregnancy/delivery and the lost productivity during parental leave can't really be cheaper some of the procedures that are not covered for women. Will be interested to see if there's an attempt to spin the plan's coverage from an industry benchmark perspective.

Keep politics and activism out of the workplace. Those machine-like messages that are carefully curated for our senior leaders by their PR & HR folks? Yeah, no one's buying it.

With regard to employee medical coverage, nothing has changed. If they came out for or against the recent decision, they’d alienate half the workforce and policy owners. Doesn’t seem like a good idea.

Without those ‘alphabet’ soup employees you mention, this company would still be stuck in the 1950s, although recently it feels like we’re already back there. Be a better person.

Maybe if D&I participants would put as much effort into doing their actual work and being productive they would be successful. Instead they prefer to play the victim role and expect things be handed to them. It's getting old.

NM is in the LIFE insurance industry. Anything having to do with preserving LIFE only benefits the company in the long run. [More LIFE = More LIFE insurance]

How exactly does the topic of abortion align with D&I?! Silly little snowflakes, they're everywhere!
