Thread regarding Tesla, Inc layoffs

Hiring people just to lay them off two months later - the Tesla way

I just got laid off from my dream job at Tesla without warning. I feel like my life got uprooted so that a billionaire could save some money.

Comparing a recruiter to hr doesn't seem fair. Business operations and the functions of the group responsible for the entire workforce will continue even with layoffs. But with reductions and reduced hiring, the primary function of recruiters is reduced so much.

Even using your example, as generous as it is for a recruiter, any supporting work like documentation and department planning, etc. would probably be best defined by those with the most experience since its impacting how the department itself operates. I'm not sure an employee with just weeks of experience would draft operational processes for an entire recruiting organization at a company of 100k+ employees?

People don’t need real work to stay busy and justify their existence. Just look at the HR departments in most corporations. As long as they have one employee they can spend lots of time on writing new policies and implementing workforce training.

This is not good at all. This means that the company will not hire more people because no need to keep many recruiter for hiring people. This is also messy and in a rush. Something suddenly turned bad and will get worse. Stay away with this situation at least for a while (1-1.5 years?).

Not to be insensitive here, but it looks like he was hired as a recruiter.

If a company made the decision to reduce existing workforce and redundant positions, doesn't it seem like actual hiring would slow quite a bit naturally? Regardless of tenure, it seems kinda obvious recruiting staff would be targeted because there's no longer as much work to do?

Maybe I'm just dense here, but do recruiters have other duties to fill a 40 hour work week in the event new hiring duties drop some 80-90%?

Welcome to the real world. You are young and will easily get a new job. It’s the over 40 crowd who struggle when this happens. It’s a bit comical hearing these young people acting like this is something new

We don’t know how old you are. If you are on the really young side welcome to the corporate world where decisions don’t make sense and companies can be ruthless. There was a time when getting laid off was almost a rite of passage. Now people think corporations are good and not evil. Far from the truth.
Please get back on that horse again. Good luck to you.
