Bed Bath & Beyond admitted they were turning off the Air Conditioning in stores to cut costs due to their financial situation. Macy's is doing the same thing.
OSHA does not require employers to provide heat or air conditioning for work spaces. OSHA does recommend temperature control in the range of 68-76°F. The qualities of good indoor air quality (IAQ) should include comfortable temperature and humidity, adequate supply of fresh outdoor air and control of pollutants from inside and outside of the building. Employers are responsible for protecting workers from temperature extremes. For additional information on this subject, see
What a ridiculous comment: "...demand created by new immigrants." That aside, the air isn't on in the AM and that is just damn cheap of Macy's. I seriously thought about emailing Jeff.
AP doesn’t care. In our store, an employee was slapped by a customer and what did AP do? Nothing. In the end, the employee was crying and her husband who was picking her up called the cops on her behalf. They can’t and will not do anything especially since they are so scared of getting sued. That’s why it is up to you to step away. Anytime I get a crazy customer start screaming or cursing me, I step away physically and remove myself from the situation so the crazy customer doesn’t attack me or something. I will not handle crazy customer. I had a really good store manager who cared about her employees tell us all that it is absolutely ok to step away if a customer is going crazy and you don’t feel comfortable.
I visited 2 stores yesterday in Central NJ. The first one no AC and was dank especially the 3rd floor. The other store was fine AC working. Amazing how the higher volume better rated store was good but no regard for the other. Very humid yesterday but luckily stayed under 80 degrees.
Yeah, pretty much.
In keeping with Macy’s caring about associates/customers, air conditioning and heat aside, I found it interesting that A.P. is REALLY all bout’ ASSET PROTECTION! That if we as associates feel compromised or unsafe by an unruly crazy customer, that it’s not A.P.’s job to intervene. They’re there to protect and recover the merchandise assets. I pause, because aren’t we (Or SHOULD be) their biggest asset? I was told if there was ever to be a “situation” NOT to call A.P. but a manager.
Soooo I take it that RL underwear is more valuable than an associate???
call local labor board and let them know of conditions
We need competent infrastructure planning. There isn't enough water and power to go around in the western USA. With the temperature going up and increasing numbers of electric cars, the power demand will increase significantly. Not to mention the
demand created by new immigrants. The thermostat may not be under Macy's control. (Some Macy's stores have solar power, but they can't run the cooling systems at night - most efficient) Without new power generation plants expect the store temperatures to keep going up! (Hint- How I stopped worrying and learned to love the bo-b!")

We only had air conditioning for visits! And don't forget no heat in winter months. I had to wear my winter coat and gloves many times. Called OHSHA more than once but it was only a band-aid fix for a few days. Shame on Jeff for not caring that we are human beings too and bet he doesn't go without either air conditioning or hear EVER!
