Thread regarding Broadcom Corp. layoffs

We seem to be the bogeyman

I've just read through some posts on the VMware page and people are terrified of being acquired by Broadcom. I don't understand why. I personally enjoy my job and I am paid well for it. Actually, I'm paid above the industry standard, which is not something many companies can say. Knowing that I wonder how did we become such a bogeyman of acquisitions...

VMware has a lot of non-tech people that are very vocal and have zero impact in the products (think POD groups, DEI, etc). Also, there’s a big chunk of low-grade tech people that just exist because of the existing “Indian structure” of having bodies/runbooks instead of a small number of highly qualified and committed employees.
They are the ones afraid of Broadcom because they will be axed.

No company is perfect. This one is strict but the stock will keep going up. Rest and vest with boring work or take your chances in a recession.

“Motivating posts”… from HR… oh the irony as you will be the first to be cut. Better expense those motivational posters while you can…

I work in HR and we are being encouraged to keep up the positive culture with motivating posts. And I also think Hock is an incredible and true leader. Our products are cutting edge, Broadcom provides me a great place to work, the pay is great and our HR department really cares. No everyone is fortune enough to enjoy all that in one package.

Because a lot of people feel entitled. Few really want to work. Most would prefer a communist system where in theory they’d get all what they need taking coffee breaks.
Of course like that type of system ends when someone else’s money ends.

@ OP

and I am paid well for it

This is highly subjective. Many companies pay much better.

Take a look at the percentage of employees that we lay off, on average, from companies that we acquire and then re-read your post boss. The cognitive dissonance is strong with this one…

Reminds me of that meme (are we the bad guys?).

  1. depending on what position / division, you are not being paid above average
  2. working there is soul crushing
  3. there is no growth, nothing new to learn, you stay, and your skills will stagnate
  4. your managment is made up of psychopaths that would sell their mum if it would increase the stock price

Those who work for AVGO are not considered A players in the industry.

Your kidding right - most are looking to bail as soon as they can. Whatever is left will be at best C players

Thanks for sharing. Your post needs a lot more details. What's the job nature (sales, presales, support, product manager, UX, what?). Why you enjoy your jobs? Which country (as each country is different)

Could you share about travel? Is it allowed? What kind of hotels, budget? This reveals if company cares about employee well being.

Why? Because it is a horrible company. It took me a year or two to realize it, but every day it becomes more clear. This company is literally run by psychopaths and incompetents. Sure, they make money, because that is literally all they care about. They actively encourage you to sabotage your co-workers to show you are a "go-getter". Hock is straight out of the Harvard MBA classes of the 70 and 80s. Why does Broadcom pay so well? Because no one would work there otherwise. I've been put in charge of hiring several candidates, and it is painful. I have to put on an act and try and convince some poor schmuck to come work here.

Now that is a funny post! 37,000 employees today and probably 5,000 will remain when all is said and done. I guess you were a direct hire and not acquired.

Fear of being laid off.
Fear of working in an office again.
Fear of losing the great benefits and perks VMware have.
Fear that the VMware name will be tarnished. Effecting future job opportunities.

No idea….
