I had many ambitions before I came here. Now I wonder if it’s just me or is this company not a place where it is possible to grow a decent career?

After 20+ years at NI I have to agree. Their moto used to be "Hire the best - retain the best", not it is more of a club for the select to make a lot of money and the masses to be suppressed. I have witnessed a mass migration of the best talent leave NI over the past 5-6 years and I am glad to report that I have found greener pastures elsewhere.
Dr T was an amazing leader with a keen vision. That no longer exists there.
so true, this company doesnt have that many ambitions, funding to various departments is way low. Even if you manage to learn something new and want to grow in it, not that much encouragement from mgmt for jumping to something else.
A set of folks in the management have ganged up and they ensure that they get promoted quickly. But engineers, not so much.
You can grow your career by leaving NI.
If in Austin there should be potential. Ask those that have been there 10+ years on the trend of promoting within versus going to the outside for talent. The answer could vary depending upon department and profession (engineering vs accounting vs HR).
