After almost eight years here, I’m finally leaving. As soon as I submitted my resignation, I immediately felt a huge relief. What advice would you give to those just coming here? I think one of the better tips for new hires is not to stay here very long, maybe two years at the most.

You’ll make money without the BS that the world is perfect.
Some can only live in wonderland to wake up later in the middle of an acquisition or in a surprise RIF.
In those perfect companies you never seen desks empty by surprise?… Where’s the hypocrisy after all?
Congrats! I know this feeling. 8 years is a long time to be a sleep. After the buyout I stayed for a year, most painful year of my life. Good luck VM ware. I recall in my buyout there were 3 lists. perm, transition, term. Some wanted terminate because they accelerate RSU. They notified you via email the day the buyout completed. In my office those on the terminate list was celebrating. I was perm, it took me a year before I started wishing I was term 12 months earlier.
any recent hire is likely not very hire-able... in my group the recent hires would not find roles elsewhere. mainly hired due to prior relationship with boss...whom also would struggle to find a new role.

The closer one gets to two or more years at AVGO, the more scrutiny the industry is applying to the candidate when interviewing for an open role (at least coming from CyberSecurity or sales perspective). As an industry, everyone knows the lack of innovation and diminishing skills that takes place at Broadcom. So the longer a person is there, the more ones skills and drive will be questioned. Staying around for the RSU’s is a great excuse for family and friends, it’s a poor answer for potential new employers.
On top of that, if it’s sales related role, it can hurt you even more since AVGO runs the sales organization so differently and fosters a bunch of farmers and not hunters.
From a technical sales point of view, AVGO moves the majority into a non sales BU technical role or if one does stay in technical sales, one becomes a glorified TAM instead of the traditional Engineer/Architect due to the job requirement and eroding skill sets that takes place over time.
Tips for new hires: Two things will happen if anyone stays for more than two years: 1) Your technical skills will get eroded beyond repair; 2) Your political skills will get razor sharp.
Do people actually look for jobs here? Most people are acquired in and a few people get rehired because they are not hirable in the market. Of the 30 or so people in my group, none of us “opted” to join (we did decide to stay though, so clearly we are id--ts).
