Probably quit when they were told they would be transferred to North Platte Nebraska to work at Bailey yards.
try being in caman craft for disrespect. we're just under m.o.w and limo drivers. we all got it bad.
If you pay a premium for good workers they will stay. If you don’t they won’t. Railroads tout billons in profits yet struggle to hire and retain workers. Years ago a premium was paid to workers who endured the strenuous railroad lifestyle. There was a time when you were paid an honest days wages for an honest days work. Meaning if an employee helped the company and performed a duty outside of the norm for his or her job then the employee would be compensated with a penalty claim which was agreed upon by the Union and railroad. Well these claims are no longer paid by the RR. For a lot of us this was a considerable amount of our wages that were just gone for whatever reason the RR decided. I am referring to the TE&Y craft of course the most disrespected railroad craft in my opinion. Thanks for reading have a safe day.
As they said at the STB hearings, companies that properly pay their employees don’t have a labor shortage. UP wants a labor shortage so they can try one man crews.
UP is intentionally trying to self implode itself and will try to cry itself out of this mess by saying one man crews will fix it. The executives don't care that the new guys aren't lasting past training, because it fits their agenda but also because they can keep testifying they have sufficient people in it's training pipeline. They told the STB they have hundreds of people in their training pipeline and is trying to fix itself that way. I'm thinking they're keeping people in their training pipeline just to appear like they're trying to fix their mistakes knowing full well very few will make it past training. Everything is very finely worded to make the company look better.
The person that said there isn’t a labor shortage is full of cr-p. Companies all over the country are begging for workers.
How do y'all survive living in CA on railroad pay?????
Railroads are in complete denial as to why the can’t keep employees. It’s not the fact that there is a worker shortage it’s that they treat craft employees like they don’t matter and aren’t part of the team. I had a manager tell me “hey we’re all on the same team” I just smiled and thought to myself I’ve never been on a team where my team mates pick pocket me, threaten me, or lie to me. If Railroads want to retain employees and still treat them like garbage then they better get to paying a lot more money.
I was in that new hire class and big John, one of my classmates, had a gas problem due to chronic intestinal issues he’d had ever since a child because his mom drank Diet Pepsi while pregnant. He could recite the definition of restricted speed by tooting. He was talented but the rest of us quit.
Company losing a lot of new hires because once they get out here, folks tell them what's really gonna happen. Sucks they left their jobs for this but the good thing is , they don't get to find out what reality awaits them due to false narratives pushed by a company that could care less. They can find hopefully a new spot before they realize what a furlough that lasts an undetermined amount of time is.
