Layoff chance for Data Scientist

Heard engineering resources are more or less safe. Any idea what will be the fate of data scientists? Will Broadcom lay us off at day 1 or will we get some few months? Trying to understand how soon I should get a job!

Fair point, they will absolutely layoff engineering resources, especially if they work from home or are part of a product that isn’t making a ton of money. Data scientists at CA were cut almost 100 percent of them. Engineering has a better chance of survival but no way he will retain 100 percent, I would predict about 40 percent will be retained which is the highest number of people being retained anywhere in the company.

Not all engineering resources are safe. I suspect there will be layoffs even among engineering.

Many companies are hiring data scientists (e.g Palantir, Alteryx, Snowflake) you should go join them
